Was in the mood today for some butter chicken, and i've been walking pass the aromas in that corner at Armadale food courts for months, thought i'd give it a try.
First time dining there, straight up order a Butter Chicken. i grab some silverware and look for a place to sit.
The one thing i notice was the distribution of tables, no matter where you sat, u are either close to another table and other diners or exposed to trolley traffic, no booths at all. With these in mind it didnt really matter where i sat.
So the food arrived, first impressions, it smells great. The whole aromas thing as you go pass, and the smell of the food was as far as the positivity goes.
For $15.50 you get a standardized measure of rice and the main dish which was butter chicken served in a small silver bowl, consisted of a few blobs on chicken pieces in a sea of orange sauce. No garnish at all on the meal. The overall portion size was found wanting more, and i did eat all of it as i didnt have breakfast. The rice was ordinary, the chicken was ordinary, the sauce tasted alright but its articificial/not authentic, a somewhat disconnected piece in the whole apparatus, probably because its pre made sauce in bulk, no love involved at all in the whole maker process. Upon reflection there was alot of salt and artificial colors added, in line qith some other honest reviews on here. See pic attached.
Across the aisle is a fill your plate by size, the larger the plate, the more it will cost. Their largest is a $13.90 plate and although they say extra for overfilling, i've overfilled many times and never been pulled up for it. Their next size down is 11.90, and this is usually more filling and satisfying if i wanna compare for a cost/quality/portion analysis.
All in all, please spend your hard earned elsewhere, dont let the smells lure you in. Ive also notice the increasing amount of bogus 5 star reviews on here from egg accounts/friends of the establishment to suppress the honest scores, notice they are usually short with an attempt to establish an existing customer-business relationship. I suspect a whole new batch of positive reviews will appear right after this to counter my honesty. Basically they operate a review ponzi scheme to keep their stars high. It is unnatural that it sits on 4.8.
In general the food at this place is overpriced, under delievers in both taste and portion. Again i wanna stress i did eat all of it, only because i was hungry and the dollar shouldnt be squandered especially these days.
Even still, just look at the picture just freshly served, u can skate on the surface of that thing. Who really knows whats in the sauce. Anyways...
Read moreFood was fine i guess i ordered a butter chicken for lunch tbh the butter chicken was bordering on so sweet it maybe would have been inedible had it been even an iota sweeter - thankfully i ordered chilli naan which kinda saved it. i feel like the chicken had that frozen flavour and texture to it i didn’t enjoy. (reading other reviews owner says every meat is fresh before cooking, but that doesn’t negate the fact that it doesn’t TASTE fresh. potentially because they grill the food before putting it in the sauce it gives it that harder dryer mouthfeel freezer burnt texture and taste) not sure if it was just a bad batch reading the other reviews but yeah i definitely would not order again. In store i’ve also tried the vindaloo which was better than the butter chicken, but given how hit and miss the experience Id probably just save my money next time and go somewhere else where i’m guaranteed a good curry.
I see the owner replied and in response : I am a huge curry fan! I am indian, I love both butter chicken and vindaloo. I just found this butter chicken almost inedible due to the sweetness, almost like a dessert. upon finishing my lunch i found a piece of chicken that had hard gristle and tendons in it and was crunchy which was...
Read moreI recently ordered takeout at SAAJ in hopes for an authentic Indian experience. Unfortunately, my visit was quite disappointing.
I ordered the Butter Chicken and was surprised by its bright orange color and overly sweet flavor. It lacked the rich, complex curry notes that one would expect from a traditional dish. To make matters worse, the chicken itself tasted off, leaving me concerned about its quality and whether my family might face any health issues after consuming it. Overall, I would rate the Butter Chicken a 2/10.
Next, I tried the Chicken Korma, hoping for a different experience. Sadly, it also fell flat in terms of authentic curry flavor. Similar to the Butter Chicken, it didn't meet my expectations for a classic Indian dish. I would rate the Chicken Korma a 2/10 as well.
On a positive note, the Garlic and Cheese Naan was enjoyable and somewhat salvaged the meal, earning a solid 5/10 for its taste.
Overall, my experience at SAAJ was disappointing, primarily due to the lack of authentic flavors and concerns about food quality. I hope they can improve in the future.
