This is a fantastic little restaurant. The night before, we ordered takeaway pizzas and were impressed by how good they were—easily worthy of 5 stars. Encouraged by this, we returned the following evening after a mix-up with our reservation elsewhere.
It was UNE Graduation weekend, and everywhere was fully booked. Despite this, the lovely hostess managed to organise a table for five adults and a toddler immediately. We were given 45 minutes to dine before the next reservation arrived, which turned out to be more than enough time to order and enjoy two courses.
The restaurant had a warm, inviting atmosphere, with an open kitchen adding to the charm. The staff were wonderfully attentive—explaining the specials, taking our orders, and serving drinks promptly. We ordered a garlic bread, No. 1 and No. 7 pizzas, meatballs with bread, a pear and rocket salad, pesto orecchiette pasta, and two saffron and prawn risottos. The food arrived quickly, and we all agreed it was some of the best Italian cuisine we’d tasted, both in Australia and overseas. Everything was delicious and incredibly fresh.
The pizza had a perfect chew and wasn’t overly saucy. My daughter adored the garlic bread, meatballs with bread, and the pear and rocket salad. The orecchiette was cooked to perfection, with a bright, well-seasoned sauce. The risotto plates were completely cleaned—a testament to how good they were. We only needed to leave once the next party arrived, and the timing worked out perfectly as we moved next door for some delicious gelato.
The owners and staff deserve to be commended for the exceptional food and service they provide. I want to thank them again for their flexibility and kindness. This meal became a core memory of my graduation and inspired me to write my very...
Read moreWe were so excited to find this brilliant little pizza restaurant in Armidale. We tried to get a table as a walk in but they were fully booked ( who would have thought on Wednesday in Armidale) but the staff accommodated us with a spot at the bar for the two of us after a short wait ( there is a pub over the road so that wasn’t hard). Firstly, the staff. Attentive but not overbearing, happy to have a chat when time allows, food came in a nice timely flow and our wine glasses were refilled at the right times. The fit out: honestly , I was really glad we sat at the bar. We felt like we in a chic little bar in Inner West Sydney , or even Italy . Stylish fit out, subtle lighting, you can sit and watch them make the pizzas . All in all, it’s intimate and inviting and feels like you are in someone’s kitchen. We LOVE Italian wine so we’re super excited to see Italian reds on the menu. Generous pours at restaurant prices but quality wine. Fabulous. The food. Oh My Gosh! We’ve been to Italy many times and we live in Little Italy in Sydney, but this food was the bomb! The salad: Zucchini, pecorino, lemon, a few green olives, radicchio, mint… honestly, that salad is one of the BEST things I’ve eaten this year! A generous serve as a little starter. I’ve never seen my husband eat so much salad so quickly!! I could have ordered more! The white pizza with potato was delicious… I don’t even like pizza that much( too much bread) but there bases are super fresh, thin, tasty, airy…. It beats our local Italian place and it’s very good. Signor Vertelli is a notch above. Did I mention REAL cloth napkins? I love that. I love everything about this place. Such a great restaurant on the Armidale dining scene . Highly, highly recommend .
