Golden Mongkok Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Balcatta

We went twice for this one and I'm glad we did to see the true atmosphere of this place and it's not good! We went here for Mothers Day and we really enjoyed ourselves despite the fact it was busy, the food was great, not oily, tasty and service was great. Because of this we returned for a Birthday a few weeks later and it couldn't have been more different, even though there was barely anyone there and we thought it would have been amazing. It was actually the polar opposite, the dim sum was cold and barely had any flavour, it was dripping with oil and when we ordered a main dish like last time it was a quarter of the size! A main that was the size of an appetiser. They had the same staff on deck and they couldn't care less about serving us this time and we even had to return a dish because of the low quality of the food. We ordered a lot of dim sum and ended up leaving a substantial amount and still, 3 out of the 7 people were actually sick the next day. It's good to see the difference between a special day where they obviously put on a show, towards the way they actually perform business. After all this we will definitely NOT be returning to this establishment.

Not the reply you would expect from a professionally run business! More like a high school kid having a tantrum. I wouldn't waste my time posting a review if it was untrue, even if I wasn't completely satisfied. It was so bad here that I had to say something so people don't waste their time. I've had bad asian food before, but the service was always top quality, welcoming and the staff seems like they would bend over backwards to make the customer feel comfortable and satisfied. Awful! We bought over $100 of food here tonight. Terrible. The spring rolls were mushed God knows what, certainly not nice fresh, crisp vegies. The Mongolian lamb was tasteless, slightly burnt with absolutely no flavour, let alone spice. The omelette tasted like lots of flour had been added so had a not very nice texture with a bland sauce. The seafood in XO sauce for $24 was a let down once again with not the best flavouring. The fried rice was terrible. Overcooked rice, not fried in any way, mushy and tasteless. Really, really awful. Going in the bin. I am a reasonably good cook and cook much, much better than these people. You need to taste your own food as it is not very good at all. I am surprised at the positive reviews and wonder are people getting so used to sub standard food that they no longer know good food from bad anymore. Go the extra miles up to Lotus Court in Connolly, so much better and proper sized containers. The Large here at Golden is what I call a small, so don't know what they call a small if this is a large. Definitely not value for money either. Take away Chinese has been my go to take away for over 40 years and am disappointed to find in the last 20 years the quality...

Had dim sum here with a family member. They provided reasonable service and the dim sum was average, but when we received the final bill there was a surprise of $8 which was unaccounted for. During our lunch, a table next to us had ordered a rice and chicken dish which the waitress had served and then came to our table and wrote something in chinese on the back of our bill which we took very little notice of. Fortunately, we checked our bill prior to paying and it equated to $28 excl tea. We then made the payment at the desk and the girl advised that our bill came to a total of $38! so we queried this figure and she said that we had ordered the rice and chicken dish! We told her that we only ordered dim sum and so she took it off our final bill without even apologizing for the mistake (or possibly an intentional error). If we had never checked our bill, we would have paid the extra $8 for someone else's dish, assuming that they truthfully and accurately calculated our bill.
