I had the unfortunate experience of purchasing from Georges on the 13/1/21. I placed my order with one person that seemed to dislike working at the place as much as I did eating at it. I then spent around 10 minutes at the IGA next door buying food with my partner before asking another staff member whether my order was ready to go. Despite the place having more staff than customers, I was told to be patient and to sit down and wait as they had not started cooking the chicken wings.
I then spent a further 10-15 minutes watching the staff as they slowly worked through other orders. The entire time I noticed one box that had not moved from the bench from the time I returned from the IGA. Eventually, I saw a worker package the elusive chicken wings and place them atop the box I had spied earlier. When they called out my number, I asked them how long the box had sat on the bench for. I was told 'Just two minutes bro I was just waiting for this chicken.'
Needless to say, the food was barely above room temperature when I stuck my finger into it at the table. I was tempted to ask for the food to be redone but in the two business days that would have taken, the chicken would have undoubtedly also cooled to room temperature. Fortunately, the chicken wings were very tasty.
Unfortunately, this meal was not the one I had hoped for after a wonderful week on the great ocean walk. From other reviews of Georges, I can see that my experience is not an isolated one. Many small businesses I had passed along the walk had glowing online reviews but had sadly closed likely due to the current travel restrictions. My only solace is that George's was nearly empty...

Food is good Service - service for food is good However, I rated 1/5 for poor service to the toilets
Atmosphere is good

I have been here many times and it’s reached a point where something has to be commented on and said
Each time I’ve come toilets have been filthy
Today when I came I grabbed one of the staff members - seen in the picture and informed toilets are not clean and need urgent attendance
His response was “We check them at the end of the shift “
What a disgusting response, which is to prove toilets only get checked once a day at the end of the day
A busy restaurant should be checked and signed every hour as McDonald’s restaurants do
He later went on when I insisted toilets need to be clean now, saying I will check it now
I noticed where he went and he didn’t even bother to check them, instead walked behind the counter, later walked to clean a table and didn’t return to me to inform me it was being clean

Staff at George’s, your food is great, however, you need to be checking toilets hourly, your restaurant is a busy venue and it’s your responsibility to check these things hourly and not at the end of the shift,
You are a busy restaurant with 50-100 people each time I come here and only have 1 male and one female toilet
Not only do you need to check toilets and clean them hourly but also need to install more toilets for your...
Read moreToday I stopped by George’s Restaurant in Apollo Bay while exploring the Great Ocean Road. The place has a nice, casual seaside vibe — it’s conveniently located right along the main stretch, making it an easy stop for travelers looking for a quick meal.
I ordered the Fish & Chips and an Angus Burger. The fish and chips were definitely the highlight — freshly cooked, crispy on the outside, and tender inside. The portion was generous and the chips were hot and well-seasoned, perfect for a coastal lunch after a long drive. It really hit the spot.
The Angus Burger, however, was more on the average side. While the size was good and it came out quickly, the patty felt a bit dry and lacked that juicy flavor I expected. The bun was slightly over-toasted, and the overall taste could have been better balanced.
The service was quick and the staff were polite, though the place was quite busy, which is understandable given its location. It’s a good spot if you’re after something fast and filling rather than gourmet dining.
Overall: Great for a quick bite along the Great Ocean Road Fresh and tasty fish & chips Burger could use a little more flavor and moisture
Tip for travelers: Go for the seafood options — they seem to be George’s strong point. Try to visit outside of peak hours if you want a...
