New Golden Lake — Restaurant in Batemans Bay

This hands down is the best Chinese restaurant in Batemans bay., yes there is another Chinese restaurant in the bay, but don't waste your time. Ok let's begin. Firstly the bad news, they are closed on Tuesdays, (tear) Fantastic lunch specials, extremely fast service even when they are busy and under the pump, and busy they were. I was there to order lunch and the line to order was out the door. What really impressed me though was that i had ordered takeaway and I asked the girl serving for a ticket number and she replied, just tell me your name, which I did. I thought this will be good there is no way she will remember my name let alone which takeaway order belonged to me seeing as I can't seem to remember one person's name that I have just met. 10 minutes later I hear my name and my order was given to me. Wow that girl is amazing, she really blew me away. So apart from the amazing staff, there is indoor and outdoor seating, a bathroom, Alcohol is served here. Wheelchair accessible parking and entry. Some of my reviews are scathing, but not this one. Since moving to the Bay six months ago my wife and I have become regulars. We go back because we like it there and the food is good.

The setting is most unpretentious. Nothing fancy and complimentary tap water comes in plastic cups. The wait staff are dressed like they are in their weekend knockabout clothes. But ... it doesn't matter because they excel with their food and service. They are always welcoming and have come to know us as regulars. The food is just the best, consistently. I recommend the satay chicken (has that distinct and yummy char grilled peanut sauce taste), and the sizzling beef. The fried rice is great too. The prawns in the fried rice are large and they are abundant. If you too like deep fried ice cream this is the place for vou. You can tell from the taste it is fresh, not pre-made.

I wrote 12 months ago a scathing review of the other Chinese restaurant just around the corner and I have not been back since that awful visit. They do not deserve your business but the New Golden Lake does.

Casual place, reasonable pricing compared to others in the area but not the best value I've seen overall. Quick service, easy menu, will update once the food comes out.

Update: Definitely still worth the 5 stars. Was not expecting the large portions but hey, who's gonna complain. And it's not like the larger portions were there to sway away from average tasting food, large portions, good taste, good variety. Is it good value for money? In the area it seems to be, that might just be the Wester Sydney in me though. I will recommend the San Dong chicken, crispy with a moist inside, with a bowl of sauce I can never remember to ask about.

The chicken wings were good to, can recommend them. Definitely choose the Special fried rice over the normal fried rice, comes with prawns and pork. Sizzling Szechuan or Sizzling Chili Lamb is also a big recommend, along with Deep Fried Chili Fillet Steak.
