Main points: hands down the best meat I have had anywhere. Fresh, authentic and a genuine cultural experience. Some options to suit fussy eaters who arenât great with spice but with challenging options for even the most adventurous foodies!
What a gem for the Runcorn area. I was walking around Runcorn Plaza, whilst waiting for my partner who was at the dentist. I was excited to see the bright blue sign over the door of an authentic Uyghur restaurant that I had not seen before. I was intrigued as to what constituted authentic Uyghur food, as I had never had this before and so I wandered into the shop.
I was greeted by a lovely gentleman who identifies as a Uyghur and moved to Australia in 2005. He was very patient with me and my million questions and walked me through the menu, answering everything I threw his way and even making some suggestions when I asked what options were particularly traditional. The prices were very fair, with budget and more expensive options depending on the meat. I got three skewers which was enough for a nice lunch snack shared between two with the rest of the sides. I would recommend two to three meat skewers per person depending on how hungry you are.
After placing my order of lamb and chicken skewers, traditional salad and steamed rice (I got take away on this occasion), I was able to watch as another gentleman stoked the hot coals and placed my meat skewers over them to cook - quite the spectacle and a super authentic way of cooking. Cooking the meat over the coals also produces a divine smell that only increases your anticipation for the meal to come. My order was ready to go shortly after, it was about a 10 minute wait during an off peak time.
Upon eating my meal I was struck by the flavour profile and tenderness of the meat. The meat has a divine combination of spices and flavours, only enhanced by cooking over the coals. The meat was super tender and juicy - hands down the best meat I have had anywhere (my âin lawsâ are Greek and often cook traditional souvla, so I know a thing or two about meat!). The salad was authentic in flavour, fresh and crunchy. The rice, well cooked. Overall, I LOVED my meal and I am planning on returning to the restaurant to eat in with my partnerâs family. This was truly an authentic, delicious and satisfying meal and I hope this restaurant is...
Read moreThis a nice little family run business. Every dish we ordered was great and tasted authentic with lots of aromatic spices. Highly recommend the lamb cumin noodles, the lamb skewers, nan bread and samosas. The large chicken noodle dish was good but didnât like the small bones cause the chicken was butchered into small pieces, favours were nice though. Even though we ordered small size noodles, if youâre a small eater it can feed two people. Itâs great value for money. I hope this business can do well, it was sad to see it being very quiet on a Saturday lunch time even though the food was really good. I recommend going in a small group and trying a bit...
Read moreI've been craving Uyghur noodles for months so ended up driving an hour to get to this place in Runcorn... sooo worth it and super underrated hence the review! Cute little shop in the middle of Runcorn plaza, heaps of parking, skewer charcoal grill out the front, super fresh and silky noodles are to die for and both noodle combinations were delicious! Got the braised lamb (home style, banmien) and lamb cumin- sooo good. Perfect balance of flavours and super authentic. Food came out pretty quick and the staff are lovely. Will definitely be back for more and my new go to!
