ICHIBA — Local services in Brisbane City

We tried a selection of their hot food offerings and overall found it to be to our liking. Will be back for more / to try other items.

Our order: Japanese fried chicken curry rice, $20 (large) chicken katsu curry rice, $20 (large) salmon poke bowl, $12 (small) lobster & mayo onigiri, $3.50 sukiyaki beef onigiri, $4 tempura prawn onigiri, $4 tuna onigiri set, $7.50 - onigiri, fried chicken, takoyaki, edamame

There was an offer of free miso soup or hot mochi cake with all orders from the kitchen (eg. curry rice meals), so I chose one of each. I also happened upon some free gyoza tasting on the day so that was another bonus 👍

The Japanese curry rice meals come in medium ($18, 200g rice, 160g sauce) or large ($20, 300g rice, 180g sauce). The same sizing and pricing/rice quantity applies for the rice bowls. Small poke bowls can be found in the fridge section along with sushi and dessert items. Larger bowls can be ordered from the kitchen.

I counted almost 20 flavours of onigiris available and they make for a good alternative to the more ubiquitous sushi rolls (hand rolls). With a variety of other food options including sandwiches, rice bowls, coppe pan (Japanese style hot dogs), (large) sushi rolls, sides, and desserts, it will take me a few more visits to try everything that caught my eye!

Ichiba Junction at Warrigal Square is an incredible Asian grocer brimming with a variety of grocery items, drinks, and freshly made meals and snacks!

While the selection is not always fully stocked, the products are clearly marked for easy browsing. When items are on special, you can spot them posted on the front window and marked at their respective places in the freezer or on the shelves.

The freshly made food and snacks can be hit or miss; some fried items may end up slightly soggy and oily if they’re not completely fresh. However, if you choose wisely, you’ll likely be very satisfied with your purchase. They offer great takeaway meals perfect for work, relaxation, or play, and individual portion-sized desserts are available as well!

The staff in counter is so kind and gentle but the person who made food is.. I can't speak japanese but I understand a littl bit. when I went into the store, she said ありがとうございます becasue she didn't know that I'm japanese or not. I asked something in english to other staff and after that, when I left the store, she just said ありがとうto me. I know it could be rude to customer and I'm pretty sure that she did it on purpose. I feel kinda bad for her but I want to let her know that some foreign customer may recognize your impudence. other staff were just great. I hope it will never...
