Baan Phaya Thai in Banyo, situated within the Banyo Retail Centre on Tufnell Road, opens later than most local restaurants for lunch. It features an exceptional layout, modern decor, and comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. The interior, including a stylish bar, is particularly striking and arguably the most visually appealing modern Thai restaurant I’ve visited.
During my visit, there was ample parking and seating available. The staff were prompt and attentive, providing good service. However, the outdoor area experienced instances of secondhand smoke from pedestrians who stopped to take in the Baan Phaya Thai menu in the window, and other pedestrians' dogs with owners walking through, so I recommend seating indoors if you're sensitive to such.
The drinks were very sweet, and the Thai Iced Coffee didn't come with the advertised cream on top. The green curry was overly salty and lacked the expected spicy heat despite being ordered 'hot' to 'Thai hot', however the penang curry was flavorful and sweet. Both curries had plenty of meat but had too much sauce relative to the rice. Unfortunately the rice was sat in the sauce which made it difficult to avoid oversaucing. The coconut rice ordered with each dish was delivered separately at the end of the meal (as a complimentary gesture) after staff realised plain rice had been supplied contrary to order. The pad Thai was a bit dry and lacked the typical flavor profile, but the other noodle dishes were enjoyable. I found that the flavours across the noodle dishes improved when reheated the next day.
Overall, I recommend visiting Baan Phaya Thai mainly for its impressive decor and attentive service. It’s worth experiencing the ambiance and...
Read moreWe needed a Vegitarian meal and were surprised to find that almost every "V" option on the menu had fish or oyster sauce. I understand they didn't list "Vegan" but Oysters and Fish aren't normally considered Vegitarian.
We asked for "Thai hot" but the heat was minimal - both in heat and flavour.
We ordered stir fried "Peanut sauce" stirfry with vegetables and tofu. The tofu wasn't good. It was hard and dry. The vegetables were under-cooked (the Carrots and Zucini were uncooked). The sauce wasn't nice, being too sweet, with no heat, and in no way a flavourful satay.
We also ordered fried rice without any fish or oyster sauce. It was nice they made this especially for us but the flavour was again sweet. It tasted okay but again the vegetables and tofu were much the same as the Peanut Sauce dish and the rice was still wet (not fried). We both felt stomach pain afterwards, not due to bad/off food but we think because the tofu was too hard and dry on our stomaches.
I suspect that a Wednesday night chef isn't the same as other nights. The chef couldn't fry vegetables or provide "thai hot" food, and yet the other reviews here are good - those reviews can't have come form this chef.
As a positive, the staff were very accomodating, very polite, the atmosphere was lovely and the price reasonable. We won't be back...
Read moreFinally Banyo is not a foodie desert after this Thai restaurant opened. It’s not the first time I had dinner here. Several times already. Once if you lazy to cook on that day or feel exhausted after work, I highly recommend to come here to have a meal. I ordered Tom Kar soup today, it warmed me up a lot. Soup was so nice with big fresh prawns. Bigger than the spoon. I am a very picky person on Seafood but I can swear that the prawns were really fresh. The stir fried vegetables with pork was yummy too. I ordered it every time I came here. So good to eat with rice. Pad Thai was fresh and nice. My partner missed ordering it. The staff came to me straightly and ask if they can cook for me immediately which is just within 10mins. Very impressive. Staffs were nice with smiley...
