The owner was just opening up when we arrived, so we had the distinction of being the first customers of the day. It might seem trite to mention this, but it has some bearing later on.
We initially just ordered ice cream, but were quickly seduced by the menu, and also ordered a Seafood Basket. The ice cream was standard brand offerings, but very welcome on a hot sunny day.
With seating both inside and out, we chose to enjoy the outside, and the meal arrived all wrapped up in paper, before I'd finished my ice cream.
There was an abundance of chips (more than we could finish), the fish was delicious, along with the crab sticks and calamari rings. Overall, we were happy with the meal and the service, and whilst we were there, several regulars wandered in for their orders.
Now I'm no fish and chips expert, but I have been around a bit, and one of the things I have learned is that the fat vats need to be heated well in advance of cooking. Now that's cost that is spent before any customer turns up. Failure to do so, means the meal is unpleasant because the fat has not heated up properly; a lesson some frugally minded chipperies have learned to their cost. As we had arrived as the owner was opening the doors for business, meant he'd actually prepared the shop to be ready from the moment the doors opened, and that was further confirmed by the speedy delivery of the meal.
There's a lot the public doesn't see in running a food business, but the tell-tale signs are there if you know where to look, Punctuality, Attentiveness and Good Service, these hallmarks are often a good guide to the overall business, and Baywatch Cafe has all three.
I'd be delighted to have fish and chips again at...
Read moreI don't know where to begin. I went in to get ice cream. yeah it wast overly bad but it would have been better if I was able to taste it. the ice cream was half melted and only got worse. I ordered a double cone and got a single and by the time I had a few licks the cone was all but gone. Soggy. so ice cream everywhere. NOT GOOD. as I walked out of the shop I slipped on a wet spot at the entrance and fell directly on my knee. Not one bit of compassion and they couldn't care less. my partner later took me home to find it swollen like a balloon. Never again am I going here. it only ruined the rest of the day and plans for the next...
Read moreI saw the good reviews and thought we would check it out. The service was awkward as the young lady just stared at us for a few minutes as she waited for the owner to serve two other people. Once they were served then she served us. I asked for fish and chips for 1 person. They only had a fisherman's basket for 2 and no other packs. You have to order however many pieces of fish you want and then order chips separately. I ordered 3 very small pieces of whiting and minimum chips. Both were over cooked. It was ok, but there are much better fish and...
