Disastrous......facts below.
Booked table and we're put with half our table in the sun. Decide we'll swap seats to spread the discomfort as no other option. Order coffee and they arrive. Lovely coffees. Order breakfast. 3 out of 4 arrive. Wait patiently about 10mins then ask a waiter where it is. Sure sir I'll find out. Then decide to move tables as the one next to us becomes available, out of the sun and get spoken to quite abruptly. Were told it's also booked and "specifically that table". Wow. 4th meal still not there (20 mins) and ask again, twice!!! Everyone else close to finished. I then cancel the meal as don't feel like eating alone and appetite gone. Also happened to a fruit juice order. It also got missed and asked for twice. Waitress finally brings it out and bangs it on the table. Another Wow!!
4th meal arrives 35 mins late even though cancelled. I send it back. Not paying for it now. Too late ..... Owner comes out and apologizes. Tells us he'll take the drinks off the bill as "compensation" and can we please pay for the meals so he can recover some costs at least.
Wow again.
Pay $9 for a side of bacon making one meal $35? For breakfast here? No way.
What food did come out to the others was delicious.
I'm hungry and annoyed. You decide.
And to reply to the owners comment ....
Calling me a liar shows what you think of your customers. 3 of us wrote the review. It isn't wrong. Deflecting our review with a comment on how your food tastes isn't any good IF THE FOOD NEVER COMES TO THE TABLE. If your staff are rude and abrupt, as they were to us, it's a reflection on you and how badly you run your business. "Compensation" never makes up for rude treatment. $10 of true cost in our drinks is all you gave up. Big deal. A true gesture would've been to wipe our bill completely considering how badly we were treated.
I'm sure you know how to get it right and do quite often. But accepting you completely stuffed this service up takes a bigger guy than you obviously are. Maybe next time humbly accept your business failed here...
Read moreWe must've just gone in on an off day. Were pretty disappointed with our experience here.
The outlook is nice and the servers were pleasant and I noted that they seemed to get along well (without being distracted from their jobs) which was really good to see.
The menu was really creative and piqued my interest straight away. Especially the bare bottom on the front page.
Upon receiving our coffees they were quick and tasty. Happy with those.
We ordered our food and were waiting a little long considering the place was mostly empty. We received our meals and they were pretty small (considering the price).
Once we starting digging into our meals we were very underwhelmed. The taster plate had a single piece of toast, a teeny slice of black sausage and the chicken was cooked like Japanese karaage, definitely not "southern style" as the menu said. Not worth the hefty price tag.
The potato hash cakes were equally disappointing, with big lumps of potato with little to no seasoning. The whites in my eggs were also not cooked so I left them to the side. The raw tomatoes were also under-ripe and sour. Threw the whole dish off. There was no cohesiveness to either dish and were generally underwhelming when comparing their descriptions in the menu.
Our final disappointment was the bacon. One of the most enticing things when selecting this place was the bacon steaks. I specifically added a ($6) piece of bacon steak to enjoy. Instead, we got 4 pieces of normal streaky bacon. No forewarning, no discount, not even an apology. $6 for your average streaky bacon. Super disappointed.
Still debating whether or not to give this place another go. Just generally we don't want to be paying enormous prices for small meals that are just as equally small in flavour. Underwhelming and a bit...
Read moreLet's start by saying this is how restaurant food should taste. There are a lot of places out there that claim to offer great food, but BlockHouse backs it up with the most flavoursome foods that are simply more than most places can offer; i'd say they are 1 of my 2 favourite restaurants.
This is an update to a review l already did for BlockHouse Coffee recently and, for my own self interest, probably shouldn't have; they are that good and giving a great review may make them busy.
I was introduced by a friend who runs a business very close by, we have eaten here probably a half dozen times, usually simple food off the snacks menu (not sure if that's what it's called) and I have never had food here that isn't top notch.
I took my wife Friday just gone as I figured she would enjoy their food as well and, no big surprise, she loved it.
We ordered 2 starters, 2 mains, and a side for $99 off the dinner menu and we had (not the description from the menu) the toasted foccacia, and the smokey duck breast for starters, mushroom gnocci, and prawn pasta for mains, with a side of charred broccolini, goats cheese, honey and walnuts.
I could have eaten an entire smokey duck, just the most amazing flavours (my favourite for the night). The gnocci was my next favourite, as my wife described it "silky," and the mushroom flavour was amazing. My next choice would be the foccacia, just for flavour, and then tied the broccolini and prawn pasta. Having said that, I would gladly eat any of them again.
I've pictured the mushroom gnocci, the prawn pasta, and the brocolino, and I've included a BlockHouse photo of the duck.
Good food, friendly staff, and a relaxed atmosphere. I recommend...
