I have changed my review from 5 star to 2 . I frequent this place once at least a fortnight if not more with my wife and 2 kids.. Today first thing.. ordered a Mild pho for my son and waiter comes and asks the chef made it spicy would you like to have it.. We replied NO as it is for my 10 year old son.. anyway .. My wife finds a piece of cardboard in her Vegetarian Pho.. about size of 2, 50 cent coins .. The waiter was apologetic but then there was no offer for replacement or to change the order.. The Owner was just hiding behind the counter.. Finally when I called the waiter again to ask, Mate whats going on.. He said We are so sorry for this.. My wife asked if the whole soup was cooked with the same he replied yes.. and said wont make a difference .. anyway I thought it was very poorly handled, we just ate and went to Be bold and got our takeaway coffee.. Wont be going back.. not because of the mistake as we all do .. but the way it was handled.. So next time you get a piece of chicken in your vegetarian soup dont bother returning just take that piece of chicken out and continue eating it, as that is what was expected..
If it was not a small business my rating would have been 1 star as this service is truly unacceptable.. I do understand wastage of food is not good and that is why my wife ate the soup that had a soaked up cardboard piece but an offer to give us a replacement would have made all the difference.. Hope they learn .. But we wont be going...
Read moreThis is normally our weekend breakfast spot of late and it’s been nice enough so you can make excuses to put up with the small issues like asking for chilli when you order but never getting it and having to ask twice every time, or the fact the place is so dirty - dust hanging from the ceilings and plastered all over the chalk boards , dirt and grime hanging from the aircon, green stains on the table water bottles ect, but that aside when the staff serve you the wrong item - raw beef instead of cooked beef you have to ask them to correct it, sadly the staff took offence to the fact that they are wrong, I asked three time and even pointed out on the menu what I wanted when ordering “beef pho - cooked beef” they then argued when it was served that I order a “combination pho raw and cooked beef”, so instead of correcting this they said “you clearly don’t like the food here so don’t come back” I’m sorry we have had two small issues in the entire time we have been coming here - once the bacon was black and rock hard and we asked it to be re cooked as it was not edible, and now being served raw beef instead of cooked beef, neither issues were our “the customers” fault however the staff told us not to return and were extremely rude over the whole issue. Very sad that a small place like this has such aggressive staff. Sad people put up with these terrible attitudes and service - definitely recommend avoiding this place if you want to receive what...
Read moreTo be fair, I’ve only eaten here once, however I’m genuinely surprised this place has such a good write up.
Since Mr Bui is closed on the weekend, I ordered a rice vermicelli salad (bun salad) from Simply Duo and paid almost $20 for the privilege, which is astronomical in itself.
What I received was a sad looking dish with wilted lettuce, a few thin strips of chicken coated in Cajun seasoning and some rice vermicelli.
First of all, what Vietnamese restaurant uses Cajun seasoning on a Vietnamese dish? Very odd.
The nuoc cham (dressing) was also very unusual and unlike any I’ve tasted before (and not in a good way). There was no herbaceous freshness that one usually associates with the dish and very, very little protein.
In summary, it was bad.
Considering Mr Bui is just up the road and serves an amazing bun salad for less, I’m genuine surprised that this place has such good reviews for its Vietnamese food.
It’s...
