I have been to the Royal many times and had always enjoyed the food and atmosphere there but my last visit was not a good experience at all. It was a Saturday night and apparently the pizza oven had broken down so no pizzas were available (an Italian restaurant not serving pizzas, what the heck!). After we sat down one of the girls came over to tell us the special for the evening, which was the "fish of the day" but they apparently ran out of that; so no pizzas and no fish either, it would seem nothing was going right for this place. Our main course took over 40 minutes to come out, there was only two of us and we ordered the Linguine Alla Marinara and Pollo 25 (with parmigiana), there was no apology of the delay in our order, the food was simply plonked in front of us and that was it. The Royal must either have a new management or a new chef either way standards have dropped. Food-wise the flavours were not as we remembers, the chicken schnitzel was dry and bland, the linguine was no better. We both only ate half of our meals and left very dissatisfied. We will give the Royal a miss from now on, $100 for an unsatisfying meal with bad experiences does not warrant a return. There are other good Italian eateries in Brisbane that can do much better, skip the Royal I don't recommend it.

First time ordering from the royal, unfortunately the food was below subpar. First came the Pina Colada that tasted like straight vodka and lime juice. No pineapple taste, paid $20 for that and had two sips and left the rest. My sister had a lemon lime and bitters which she said had way too much lime also. Sister ordered a spaghetti bolognaise which she couldn't eat as it lacked flavour and was watery, was making her feel sick, it was a kids option though. She also ordered a ceaser salad, she had a bite or two of her and said it was flavourless and didn't realise that it didnt come with bacon as most traditional ceasers do. So another meal wasted. I ordered the chicken main which was around $32 and the chicken was all gristle, the flavour on the chargrill was nice but unfortunately it was also inedible, no meat at all. The potato's were extremely dry, the sauce was watery and tasteless. The carrots were coated in a thick flavourless crumb mix which was not pleasant. We both spent over the $100 mark combined on food and drink and left to eat elsewhere as we couldn't finish anything. The table was also dirty and no one offered to clean it. The only upside was that the service staff were lovely. Unfortunately we won't be returning.

A small group of us headed here for lunch this week. This is a very pleasant space (trees and breeze); music was low enough that we could hear each other (always a bonus), service was friendly and efficient, and we (mostly) enjoyed our meals. One colleague was mistakenly given a small serve of the roast pumpkin salad; hubby had the normal size of this one, which was fresh, and flavourful. Two colleagues ate the chicken Parmi, while another had the chicken schnitzel. They all said they enjoyed the tender (good-sized) chicken. I ate (a fair bit of) the fish and chips which was enormous, very generous with a small fresh salad and chips. Fish was tender and nicely battered; chips plentiful. Our youngest colleague had a big bowl of chips with 3 sauces, which she happily hoarded and devoured. Another colleague was - shall we say? - disappointed with his vego schnitzel burger, which was dry, not well-flavoured and sat in his stomach for hours "like a bowling ball". Mm I always wonder why people want to pretend that a 'plant-based burger' is worthwhile?:) But hey, that's just me. Overall, we had a fine time and on the whole, enjoyed our mid-week lunch.

Not sure what's happened with this place recently but I'm deeply disappointed after visiting this Friday night. I've been to this place many times before with my family and my friends but tonight it was a different experience.

First we saw security people 10 meters from us dragging and punching a man and twisting his arms who was yelling them to relax and let him go. His wife was standing next to him and yelling to security to let him go. After they let him go the couple looked very disappointed and they were walking near me, and I saw his wife was very pissed off at the security, I must say the couple wasn't drunk or anything they looked like decent people in their 40s.

Then after we had two beers and pizzas with my brother, a black security man came over and told us to leave the place, just because my brother was wearing shorts...

When security came in we were waiting for another order, happily enjoying the atmosphere of the bar and it's interior.

I told security that we've been there for at least last hour enjoying our Friday after having one pint of beer each, and nobody said anything about the dress code when we walked in (which is quite stupid considering the weather in QLD).

So the security called his manager, who came and asked us to find a girl who we placed the order from (pretty embarrassing isn't it) just to confirm that we placed an order and after finding out that we actually did he said we must consume it within 20 minutes and either leave the premises or sit outside (it was 15 degrees and raining outside).

So I don't know what's happened with this place recently, I used to go there all the time in my shorts and never had any problems, but obviously after this assault I will never go back there again and will not...

We figured Monday night would be a safe bet for this usually crowded venue - guess again

We were seated at 7, our order taken at 7:10. Our food was brought out at 8:05pm! When it did arrive, firstly the entree (garlic bread - not exactly a strange request at an Italian restaurant) which we had requested did not come out at all. Secondly, my order was completely wrong (I requested veal fettuccine and they brought me spaghetti bolognese?). They then made a new meal which arrived at 8:20pm. The pasta itself was average and bland and I would certainly not order it again.

After finally finishing my meal at 8:30pm we received the bill charging us full price for all food and drink. I asked to speak to the manager - a feisty Italian lady who could not understand at all why I was disappointed. After pointing out that the venue was HALF EMPTY and that we had waited an HOUR for our meal which was then incorrect, she argued until I insisted she checked the kitchen for our order time. Our receipt said 7:10pm, and she refused to acknowledge that this was an issue. My partner, who works in a similar venue, stepped in to say that at his tavern, my meal and drinks at least would be free. Although the royal uses the same till system as my partners venue, the manager once again refused to discount any meals as she 'was not allowed to do so', offering us free drinks after much debate (we all drank non-alcoholic beverages so this equated to a $10 reduction from an $85 bill).

In summary, the food itself was unimpressive, the service poor, and the management staff straight up rude. I will never spend another dollar at this disappointing venue and would encourage others to reconsider, or refrain from planning any engagements within 2 hours...

Wish i could give zero for their pathetic behaviour and lack of interest shown at work. My partner and i went to grab few drinks and saw most of the staffs lined up in one section and not even one soul present near the bar section where we were sat. We did come here last week and everything was fine but today we were completely avoided for 4 minutes straight and when my partner went to grab water for us he saw none of the staffs making our drinks hence, why he asked me to check if the order had been placed through my phone and it was. Couple minutes later this Blonde comes in with my partner’s drinks which I believe had ice in it and then agitated asks for our ID’s which should’ve been a prior step before even making someone’s drink and bringing out to their tables, coming to the point that they don’t even realise who has been sitting where most of the times. This other lady tries to explain to us and we were sadly returned home after refusing our drinks and making us wait for more than 10 minutes. What an awful behaviour shown to us and completely avoided us, hopefully this isn’t a part for people of colour if it is then it sucks. Would love to speak to the General Manager or someone in charge of this place. Normally had ordered food through Uber eats but won’t ever be returning back here ever again or even recommending our community that has been based in Nundah’s Locality for years! To the girls that served us- Thanks for making our lovely evening awful. I hope you learn to...
