As I walked into Maude, the newly reopened brunch spot in Coorparoo, with the Brisbane heat wave pulsating outside, it struck me - sometimes, the best way to beat the heat is with a hot new experience. The return of Maude felt like a fresh beginning, a culinary phoenix rising from the ashes of the mundane.
My partner and I are so glad that the owner has decided once again to open and serve brunch. And huzzah, our favorite broccoli fritters are back on the menu! Each bite was a savory delight, soft and delectable, a testament to the return of good things, even better than before.
The smashed avocado with a side of bacon was not just brunch, it was a statement. It was about finding the perfect balance, much like the delicate dance of finding someone who complements you in every way. It was unapologetically delightful, like stepping out in a bold outfit and owning the streets.
And the coffee, oh the coffee! It was like diving into a deep, cool ocean, a respite from the relentless sun. Each sip was a plunge into a world of rich, bold flavors that awakened the senses. The ginger and mint spritzer, a refreshing plot twist, was like that unexpected message from an old friend - familiar, yet exciting.
Sitting there, the bill at a mere $62.73 it all felt like an urban oasis in the midst of a scorching day. Maude wasn't just serving food; they were creating an experience, a cool haven where the heat of the outside world melted away.
The owner’s welcoming presence added to this sanctuary. They were more than just the captain of this culinary ship; they were the architect of a space where love, laughter, and good food intersected. It was a place where we could enjoy the simple pleasures of life, unburdened and unjudged.
As we stepped out, back into the heat, it dawned on me that Maude was more than a brunch spot. It was a reminder that even on the hottest days, life can be cool, comfortable, and full of flavour. In the heart of South East Brisbane, we had found our haven, a place that understood that sometimes, the best way to beat the heat is not to escape it, but to embrace it with great food and even better company.
For those seeking a culinary adventure or a simple moment of pleasure, Maude in Coorparoo is the place to be. A haven of flavours, a sanctuary in the heat, and a testament to the joy of good food and great company. Thoroughly recommended - come and taste the experience...
Read moreMaudes used to be very friendly. We have been going there for nearly twelve months. However, we were recently given a very bad taste in the mouth. This was not due to the food but rather the rude manner in which were treated by the cafe owner and manager.
I put this into some context though. As a long-standing local family with nearly 70 years of lived experience in Coorparoo. We like to support our local business were ever we can. We were very excited to see Maudes opened and have been going there for 12 months. Bring our family and friends for various meal and celebrations. Spending several 100's of dollar over that time. Which we did not mind as we received excellent food and service. To Maudes credit, the kitchen Staff, wait staff and front of house staff do everything they can to make you feel warmly welcomed. As previously stated, the food and amenities are wonderful. They even make our little puppy Bella is made to be felt welcome. Sitting outside and enjoying the company of our local Neighbours and visitors.
However, their coffee has gone downhill. The last two times we have had coffee there we didn't finish, or we sent it back. I am one of these people who never send food back.
On our last occasion to visit about 2 weekends ago. We didn't want to pay for a coffee that didn't suit our tastes. So, we ordered a coffee from the coffee shop as a takeaway. I sat outside, as we always do with our puppy whilst my wife went to book table. The manager spoke to my wife in way that made her very upset. He had taken umbrage at us bring in a takeaway coffee and the ring words: "You can't bring that in here as it is a kick in the guts."
Of course, my wife and I were very upset and left without ordering, and we will sadly not go back again. I hope the owner of the restaurant gets a chance to reflect on this feedback. Your coffee needs improvement and as do your manners. I hope both improve so the opportunity to grow your business keep the much-needed cafe in the area.

Read moreAlright folks go no further, forget all other reviews, i’m the arbiter of truth and objectivity, i’ve never been wrong and i don’t wanna argue about it.
Maude is a great Cafe in a great spot! Based of these crucial factors:
Room/Facility- MAUDE creates a modern homey lounge-like feel in their dining room with Cream, White, Light-Brown and Grey colour scheming, a use of soft material for seating with cushion accoutrement! Also sporting eye pleasing art work on most walls that can function as great conversation starters. With the big beautiful entrance side Bi Fold Windows, you’ll find a lot of natural light fills the room. No ugly artificial florescent tube light-bulbs in the dining space. Check ✅ You wont find hard cafeteria grade plastics, or pleather upholstered bench seats either. Check ✅
Staff- MAUDE has a lovely front of house wait staff who always come across as sweet, softly spoken, polite and professional. The owner/ operator can look a little stoic at a glance but looks are deceiving! He’s a friendly guy, and from observation has clearly formed many bonds & relationships with locals whom are frequent patrons of his cafe.
Food- MAUDE is not dishing out food aimed at the lowest common denominator, there is real thought and consideration applied here. The result is very well done, tasty food that you’ll appreciate. Not all things are created equal of course, i have my preferred items but no dish is average or boring. Like good restaurants tend to do; they change their menu when good produce can’t be sourced and when the seasons change. More and more Cafe’s it seems are struggling to generate great or even good coffee, MAUDE thankfully doesn’t suffer the same deficiency! Grab an iced latte.
I rate MAUDE highly, and so should...
