Cardigan Bar — Restaurant in Brisbane City

Not quite sure why this bar is called ‘Cardigan Bar’ but certainly the name expresses the homeliness of the place.

I wasn’t aware that you could have a sort of musical hall/hotel bar type of establishment. To have an alcohol licence I thought you had to be a hotel who also provided food and accommodation. Or you had to be a café and provide food.

In the case of Cardigan Bar it provides alcohol and, as far as I know, its food is mainly snacks you would encounter at a hotel counter.

It’s a narrow room with sitting facilities inside and out. When we were there the room was filled with the band and about as many people around them as the room would fit.

A warning! If nature calls, go find something outside as otherwise you will need to run the gauntlet of the audience and the band, the rest room being right at the back.

What happened to the cardi bar?? When did it become so inhospitable? When did it become so pompous?

Was it because the original owners, Chris and Gabby left?

I do not know. But the new owners are not as courteous as Chris and Gabby were. They do not seem as passionate about the bar either.

There are still lots of local acts and some great live music but the overall atmosphere of the place has changed. It is no longer accepting of everyone!

It feels cliquey, imperious and snobby. So basically unless you are a seasoned regular the staff treat you with rudeness and hostility. It feels like they do not want you there at all.

I used to love the Cardi bar. It had a great atmosphere full of friendly locals and a great range of expensive but yummy drink choices.

A very cool funky little bar heaps of good vibes & an ambience that makes you feel like you're in an old castle den. Good live music scene, supporting local music. Friendly obliging staff with a knowledge on the local craft brewers scene, beers are very tasty and worth trying across the board, both on tap and contained in bottles with a generous range of choices as well as wines & spirits.
