Since being back in the sandgate for a while I wanted to find a regular coffee shop.there are a few to choose from and most are always busy, so if you're likee and some times you're in a hurry that's not great but that's what happens I guess if your coffee is good. I wanted somewhere to sit and relax and cafe 63 seemed like a good place. The downsides Outdoor dining. Not sure what the issue is but if you sit outside in the morning, you'll either get a tan or a wiff of a very stinky drain. And I mean stinky, its definitely not what you want when eating. Also, sitting right beside cars the pull in and a filthy gutter is a huge turnoff. Tables are not what I would call stable and not always very clean. Condiment dispensers are not clean and sometimes not filled either. Layout. While trivial, it says a lot for a cafe. It seems very haphazard and awkward. Not what one would expect from a cafe. All black and white its boring and bland and lacks any kind of relaxing atmosphere. No cake displays showing cakes available that day or other foods on offer is just plain odd and not something I have ever run across. Food. Average at best. While I've not hadchnto eat here, what I've had is "general" available any where, bland and uninteresting. Scones are plain and heard by chef mic. As in microwave. Piping hot and just very boring and you get a pile of plain can whipped cream. Service. While most coffee shop workers around Australia seem very pleasant. Cafe 63 staff look tired always and hardly ever smile. Not sure it they like the job but I'd suggest to the if you want customers to feel welcome, at least smile and be pleasant. There i one woman that works there, not sure if she's the cook but please, use some deodorant. While walking around clearing tables her body odor was atrocious. Not pleasant at all and not what I expect from cafe workers or any workers for that matter. Coffee. Good depending on the day. Average any other day. No real flavor but if you're in a hurry it's better than none. Would I recommend people eat here? Not really. Actually I'm surprised its lasted so long. Just an average coffee shop, huge menu but...
Read moreI love this cafe, the food is great and staff are lovely. Unfortunately this review is for their toilets. I had to use the bathroom, and instead of encountering a nice, pleasant bathroom I encountered what seemed like a hazard which would start biological warfare. The smell is wretched, I can barely stand to stay in there for more than five minutes. Furthermore, everything is so dirty. I would genuinely be surprised if you told me these bathrooms have cleaners as I have been in there multiple times and nothing has improved. Surely that has to be against some kind of health and safety?? There is dust coating every surface, and the walls have a thick layer of grime and dirt. The air vent in the ceiling has layers of dust covering it which must be some kind of health and safety violation. The hand dryer also has thick layers of mould covering it. Can’t wait to dry my hands with literal mould infested air! Don’t even get me started on the handicap bathroom and the female toilet section. The bin is always overflowing and the floors are dirty. The design of the bathroom is ridiculous, why are there two doors if there is only one stall? Just add a lock to the main door. I tried to add photos but I can’t so you will just have to believe me, which I know you will if you ever have to use these bathrooms. Either way, I pity whoever has to use this bathroom especially the workers. Also, I am sorry if this is a centre bathroom and not the Cafe 63 bathrooms...
Read moreLunch Sunday. I must say we frequent 63's at Redclife, Eatons Hill and Boondall. All of which are great in terms of food quality, service and friendly staff. Cafe 63 I thought was very consistent in his regard. So Cafe 63 Sandgate came as a bit of a shock. 12.30pm Sat down with 3 people and there were About 5 other diners in total for the cafe. 3 food attendants and a few other staff. We sat for a good 15-20.minutes before we were asked for our order. And another 25 minutes before the food arrived. Which had a few issues, firstly the side of sweet potato chips turned into normal chips and the cherry tomato on one of the meals was clearly past it's use by date being soft and more brown than red. I pointed this out to the attendant and she really wasn't sure what to do, so it just sat on the side of the plate. Also my scrambled egg was cold. So overall our experience was in stark contrast to every other experience we have at other Cafe 63 establishments. To top it off we were over charged on the final bill for an item we did not have which we had to point out and it was rectified
So will we continue dining at Cafe 63 ? Yes, just maybe...
