Our intention to visit this venue was because we were hoping to bring our family, who will be visiting from Sydney at Easter and have them experience a few of the various venues we’ve been to since moving from Melbourne three years ago.
Having had 40 + years of experience not only in the industry but also as an Italian/Sicilians, who was raised in the kitchens of our restaurants. While other children played in their street before dark, we were engaged in learning the art of pizza making and Italian cuisine…. so we are providing our experience at this venue from our scope of knowledge in Italian (Sicilian) cuisine.
Please note that our experience is based on the dishes we selected, the remainder is our overall observations of the environment - 4 dishes and the overall experience was sufficient in providing us with whether we’d be returning
The calamari (visual observation) was encased in crumbs and seemed to be fried to perfection; however, once bitten into and chewed, each bite released a gelatinous and grisly substance, which was met with concern!
The Arancini were the closest dish from our selection that gave us any hope from what we could tell; fried well from what it seemed, it was pleasant; however, the texture of the rice was overcooked, and it became pasty. The rice for an arancino is supposed to separate once cut or placed in the mouth, not become a paste; the flavouring, surprisingly was good.
Now for the biggy, the pizza! Let’s start with ….. the absence of a Pizzaiolo (Pizza Maker); Pizza Making is “An Art” not for the inexperienced hands of teenagers!
These two teens looked miserable; the senior chef or the person dressed in black consistently looking over their shoulder, checking in … this for the observer looked as though he lacked confidence! The two teens making pizza gave off “production line vibes” no life in them; no heart or passion in their presence, not a smile, and this was reflected in the pizza placed before us - watch any Pizzaiolo at some other venues in Brisbane and you will understand what I mean
The demographic of the patrons, primarily teens, at the time we were seated, with the exception of a dozen or so adults scattered at other tables, gave me the impression that this business attracts a particular demographic, either teens, locals limited for choice and then people who assume that they are going to have an experience unlike any other!
Back to the pizza, anyone who has savoured a wood oven-cooked pizza would know that this pizza doesn’t hit the mark at all, far from it! The rotating oven base is impressive but makes no impact on the composition of the dough, something I was taught to do from the age of 8 at our family Pizzaria in Sicily and then once we relocated to Melbourne (1977 - 2007). I can only imagine the state of these pizzas when delivered in a box; what a mess!
Adult dining it is not, despite the price tag 🏷️
The decor fell flat, and during our experience, it simply didn’t connect with everything else that was going on. We felt we were sitting in a classic franchise setting that employs young staff to cap overheads and attract a young demographic who knows little about the highest quality Italian cuisine.
I’m all for supporting the community and employing locals; however, are there not adults with experience in providing and delivering exceptional customer service that goes above and beyond?
Outside Dining Area! The noise in the outside dining area invites complete chaos; the music combined with the noise level coming from the premises next door was at times unbearable; delete the music, and it would make for a more pleasant experience, even with the vibe of the crowd coming from next door!
QR CODE MENU Don’t anticipate that the dish is going to look anything like that image; the brownie stack isn’t a stack at all and doesn’t resemble the one shown. We looked around to get the attention of the staff, but we were eager to leave, and with that we did!
In addition Sparkling Mineral Water, 2 Espresso Martini
Total: A little over...
Read moreHi all. Firstly I want to make this abundantly clear that this 5 star review is 100% because of the EXCELLENT service and customer care shown by 2 of the staff at the EVERTON PARK restaurant on Tuesday evening. I had called a few times trying to order takeaway pizza and didn’t get through. So as I’m only 10 minutes from the Everton park restaurant.. I drove down there. And upon arrival I was greeted by 2 staff… LUCY (whom I had spoken to on the phone earlier) and NINA who was doing an exemplary job behind the bar. Quick back story- when I had called earlier in the afternoon, Lucy had very politely explained that as they get extremely busy, it’s hard to answer the phone… but.. we try to. Anyway, on arrival… I said, I tried ringing but, thought I’d just come down. She was very apologetic and explained how busy they were, which they in fact were. Anyway, I made the order, Lucy invited me to sit at the bar if I wished to.. while waiting. I then started conversation with Nina… while she was also extremely busy making several cocktails and drinks per minute. I then, after observing everything around me, realised what was causing such an extremely busy evening. They were severely understaffed.
Now…. Having said all this… a few points
As a restaurant owner, if you choose to be the ONLY restaurant open on Christmas Eve in a complex that unusually has several several restaurants open… then, you need to have the staff to allow for a smooth and successful evening. As a restaurant owner, if you don’t want to have to pay staff more because it’s Christmas Eve, then don’t plan to be the only restaurant open. Stay closed like everyone else. - because it is not fair in the staff that worked that evening to be so stressed and busy- because you haven’t put the required amount of staff on. Without a shadow of doubt… whilst they were severely busy.. and somewhat stressed… Lucy and Nina… were absolutely brilliant. Friendly, approachable, polite, professional and not fake. When I spoke to them both… they responded in a very naturally and genuinely. And they were both doing a fabulous job, during the roughly 30-45 minutes I was there. There was one staff member there.. who was quite the opposite. Don’t know her name. But she was extremely non approachable. She was not friendly at all. Didn’t show any want to engage with patrons in a friendly way at all. In fact, she had tense and an unpleasant demeanour. Further more, you as owners would’ve been better keeping her off for the evening and having Lucy and Nina with the other staff handle the entire evening. The other staff were also friendly and approachable… and of course Lucy and Nina were excellent in every way.
And the pizzas were very very nice as well.
All in all… staff were great (excluding that one women -don’t know her name- I think she had red hair - maybe, but she obviously had an attitude on her, and shouldn’t have been there ) Food was great. Atmosphere was great. AND….. above all else LUCY AND NINA WERE ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. And MADE the experience the 5...
Read moreAte here Sunday night. They use the impersonal QR codes for ordering so we didn't experience much service, but when they bought our drinks out they were just dumped at the table, not even a friendly smile, no one asked how we were going the entire evening despite us spending around $300. Ordered 4 entrees and 2 mains - Entrees: chicken bites were really nice; Garlic pizza bread was good; the halloumi chips were just ok but the sauce was completely tasteless. The burrata with truffled honey was delicious. The side salad was a bit disappointing - wilted greens and no dressing to speak of. They brought the chicken pesto pasta out while we were still eating our entrees so we asked them to wait before bringing the last pasta out (carbonara), so it didn't get cold while we finished out entrees. The chicken pesto was absolutely terrible. Pesto chicken had an overpowering aniseed/fennel seed taste instead of basil and the texture was glu-like & sticky instead of saucy - we picked the chicken out of it (only a couple of pieces, and only because we were hungry) and left the pasta pretty much untouched. As we had asked to hold off on the carbonara, we were left waiting with empty plates for about 25 minutes - the staff member we had asked to hold off on our carbonara sat at the bar the entire time on the computer and never so much looked up at us. I had to go and ask for the carbonara, which was of course cold when finally brought to the table. I guess we could have asked to have it heated up, but we felt like it had been done deliberately (how dare we ask for our food not to be brought out all together!), and warming it up wouldn't have made it more palatable anyway - the pasta was cold, the sauce was thin and completely tasteless, not even salt could save it. We ended up leaving both pasta's almost entirely untouched and left. On leaving, no one so much as looked up, said good night, asked us how our meals were; nothing. It was like we didn't exist. Our family had suggested we go there as they had been wanting to try it - we've advised...
