Fonzie Abbott: A Quintessential Local Gem and Global Coffee Standard Fonzie Abbott holds a unique and esteemed position within our local community, rightly celebrated as a true gem that has garnered international recognition, notably being listed among the top 100 cafes in the world. This is a source of immense pride for us locals, and rightly so, for Fonzie Abbott is far more than just a cafe; it is a multi-faceted establishment embodying excellence in every domain it touches. At its core, Fonzie Abbott is a dedicated roastery, meticulously transforming green beans into the exceptional coffee that forms the foundation of its widespread acclaim. This commitment to quality from the very source is palpable in every sip, delivering a depth of flavour and aromatic complexity that truly sets it apart. Beyond the masterful coffee, the establishment expands its impressive repertoire to include the brewing of local beers and the distillation of exceptional spirits, creating a holistic sensory experience that caters to a diverse range of discerning palates. The culinary offerings at Fonzie Abbott are equally impressive. My personal favourite, the Turkish breakfast, is a testament to their innovative and flavourful approach. The harmonious blend of savoury yogurt with perfectly poached eggs creates a delightful symphony of textures and tastes, a truly satisfying start to any day. And no visit is complete without indulging in their Portuguese tarts, a divine accompaniment to their expertly crafted coffee. These tarts, with their rich, creamy filling and perfectly caramelised tops, are a non-negotiable treat that embodies the cafe's dedication to culinary excellence. Fonzie Abbott is more than just a place to grab a coffee or a meal; it's a vibrant hub where passion for quality ingredients, expert craftsmanship, and a welcoming atmosphere converge. Its global recognition is a well-deserved affirmation of what we, the locals, have long known: that Fonzie Abbott is an unparalleled institution that continuously elevates the standard for cafes, roasteries, breweries, and distilleries alike. It is, unequivocally, an essential experience for anyone seeking the pinnacle of local culinary and...

Despite its reputable origin and meticulous processing, this coffee failed to deliver on its potential. The batch brew presented with a stale and lifeless profile, lacking the vibrancy and clarity expected from a well-processed Colombian coffee.
Aroma: Muted, lacking the expected floral or fruity complexity. Virtually no presence of inviting aromatics that typically define high-grown Colombian offerings.
Flavor: Flat and underdeveloped. The anticipated sweetness and fruit-forward notes were absent, leaving an uninspiring, hollow cup with no discernible complexity. Any underlying chocolate or caramelized sugars were undetectable.
Acidity: Dull and subdued. Instead of the crisp, juicy acidity characteristic of Huila-grown coffees, this cup was one-dimensional and lackluster.
Body: Thin and drying rather than syrupy, leaving an astringent mouthfeel that lingered unpleasantly.
Aftertaste: Short, dry, and forgettable. Instead of a pleasant, lingering sweetness, the finish dissipated abruptly, reinforcing the overall underwhelming experience.
Final Assessment: Given the origin and processing, this coffee had the potential to shine, yet it fell far short due to either staleness, improper storage, or flawed brewing execution. As served, it lacked the defining attributes of a well-processed Colombian single-origin and did not meet specialty coffee expectations
thank you for the great atmosphere and warm hospitality. The service and ambiance were welcoming, making the visit enjoyable despite the disappointing cup.
Update: I appreciate the team’s thoughtful response and commitment to quality. I’ll be returning to reassess the coffee and evaluate its consistency across brews. A truly great café delivers excellence in every cup, and I look forward to experiencing the intended expression of...
Read moreNot very often that you can have both a distillery and roastery in the same place ! Unfortunately, didn’t have time to taste the gin , but it looked good. All the small touches are here ; nice and cozy , opposite a lovely sports ground ( drinks and coffee after game !) and obviously a local institution. When my friend and I walked in we were seated and greeted promptly. Quite a bit of seating , but can imagine when it’s busy it gets full quickly . They premises with a barber , which is an innovative idea . You also sit upstairs which has a lovely park view . We both had coffees, which were a lovely dark roast and I tasted chocolate undertones. My friend ordered the beef brioche burger, which was amazingly juicy with so much flavour , and a wonderfully sweet bbq sauce ( she gave me a little of the meat ) It also came with chips which also surpassed expectations. Best burger she’s had for a long time . I ordered a gluten free pizza - which was aptly named La Fonz ( reminiscent of the Happy Days era ) - the base was lovely , fluffy and crunchy with big slivers of Parmesan and stretchy mozzarella, and large fine slices of prosciutto. So big I couldn’t eat it all in one sitting, but they gave me a take away box , so I had dinner that night . Apparently there’s also live music here - the atmosphere is similar to what I imagine and American bar is like , lots of wood , long tables and the smell of bbq sauce. If I lived locally would definitely be back again , especially to try the Gin . A “relaxing into the weekend “...
