We have given Fryhard 5 tries now, the first time was almost good, four subsequent have been awful. We had forgiven two of the awful times for them being overwhelmed with customers, (especially over covid) and generally gave them the benefit of the doubt, as they've been our local Fish and Chips (F&C) for almost 12 months. All orders had been in store pick up, except tonight, which was Uber Eats.
Tonight the meal arrived, sealed by the restaurant, receipt ticked to indicate the bag had been checked. Calamari and Seafood sticks were missing (a member of our group's full meal). Fish was so overcooked it was inedible - some chips were literally frozen, and if they weren't frozen, they were soggy and gross. Uber driver didn't pick up the phone after multiple attempts, so I called the store - poor girl, doing her best, clearly not unfamiliar with my type of complaint, embarrassed, at direction of her manager, directed us to Uber.
Note: Restaurant cannot blame Uber for the poor experience, as the delivery was timely, before anticipated, (curiously) quicker than our previous in store pick up orders. Furthermore, chips don't cool to freezer temperature in the Australian summer, nor do the Uber drivers staple the bag closed.
In the end, Uber were fantastic, albeit frustrating to have to deal with a robot. Uber refunded the order, in full. I see from other complaints that the restaurant does not offer refunds. I'm glad tonight, we chose Uber.
I'm of a view that the restaurant and it's management should be ashamed of the quality of their product, and worse, hiding behind Uber to manage their poor customer interaction. The manager should have a good hard look at himself if that's the quality of the food he's willing to let out of his restaurant.
The manager should also show some leadership, and speak to the customer himself, rather than leave a junior staffer to splutter through her apology for the poor standard and customer service she's available to provide, due to her management's incompetence. If it were not for overhearing his conversation with the girl I was dealing with, I would not be writing this review. (EDIT) I see this is not an uncommon complaint, as noted in the other google reviews. I wonder if my review will illicit such an illuminating response from the 'owner'?
I'm of a view that their review score of 4.1 can only be reflective of the lack of any F&C in the immediate area. We're always on the look-out for good F&C, and try where we can to support local business. There's been a lot of good F&C come and go from the area over the years, and I was excited to see Fryhard appear, especially with such an exceptional rating.
I suggest you do yourself a favour - drive the extra to Tommo's Fish and Chippery at Chermside West who (in my opinion) have never sold me a meal below a 3.5, and consistently perform over a 4, over the better part of the past 20 years. I certainly won't be wasting any more...

The "award winning burger" was 4yrs ago 2017, gee standards plummeted quick! The "Owner" apologises to bad reviews and then publicly shamefully discredits the writer toward the end of each reply, the proof is in their history. With no-right-of-reply other than editing our reviews. I ordered at 6:25pm, Official "Owner's" account admitted in their reply that my order was handed to me on CCTV at 7:05pm and is satisfied with that. The Senior gentleman "Owner" refers to in his reply, is the same one heard quoted to 4-5 people walking in including me: "If you're hungry, DON'T go here, I'm never buying here again". The trash in these photos cost $50 for 55mins wait on a Wednesday night (not Fri or Saturday night, a Wednesday!) "Owner" didn't seem to care about the lack of quality. The way they disgustingly treated the Senior Gentleman in front of me, who had lived in the area for decades, was heartbreaking. He waited 55mins for 1x burger. I type this because I've been stupid enough to return 3 times, but Never again ...I warned everyone when I left tonight, and I'll keep warning people, because every time it's "sorry for the wait" "sorry for the wait" - it's worst when you order in person let alone online. Look how old the chips are! Nobody can admit that they look worth waiting for. Our $50 order with stale bread & miniature fish was missing Tartare sauce and the Gravy, which you both have to pay for. Unclear communication on what part of people's orders are being waited on, ambiguous wait times like "in a sec" "will be a minute". To the "Owner"'s reply, use your CCTV to help your staff...if you see that they're so busy that customers are warning others outside before they walk in...help them, instead of apologising to every second review on here! Old mate apologised because he most likely felt guilty for my outburst, but he was doing the Just thing, like I'm doing: WARNING, STEER CLEAR! SAVE YOUR...
Read moreWe use to love eating here but recently have had some bad experiences. The last time we ordered we received RAW chicken and items missing. After waiting an hour and a half for the order my breastfeeding wife started eating her chicken buger. After having some of the chicken we noticed it was raw chicken and then she had to force herself to throw it up.
We ordered through DoorDash and called the store once we noticed the raw chicken and missing items. The store was so unprofessional. They confirmed that the items we were missing were sitting there and they said they didn't want to make excuses but they have new staff.
They said the manager was busy and to just get a refund through DoorDash. After fighting with DoorDash support for over 30 minutes we ended up getting a refund. Raw chicken is extremely dangerous and they did not offer to make a replacement or anything, didn't even ask if we wanted to pick up the items we were missing, just told us to contact DoorDash. After 2 hours we sat there still hungry wondering to ourselves why we bothered getting takeaway...
In Summary: Wait time to long. Missing items. Raw chicken. Poor...
