Ordered a Croquembouche for my 30th Birthday. Paid the extra money for it to have 60 profiteroles so it amounted to be a $180 birthday Croquembouche.
I ordered it online, and assumed it was accepted and would be made on the time I asked for. And rushing around the day of my party it definitely would’ve helped if I received a message or something to say it was ready for collection. Nonetheless I arrived at the time I booked for and it was ready which I was pleased with so I can say the team there are efficient in their ability to fulfil orders.
Unfortunately when I collected the order I didn’t really take notice of how it looked as I was in a rush. But when I did get it home to inspect I did notice it was absolutely drenched and caked to the max with the toffee sugar. From what I remember from having a Croquembouche the sugar is spun into a thin web and then placed around the profiteroles, not spun directly over the profiteroles in a triple thick layer preventing access to the actual profiteroles. Not only was there a cage of sugar to bust through but the build of the profiteroles was also impossible to break apart due to the amount of sugar they were also coated with. It literally made it so hard to serve to guests as the hardened sugar on the soft pastry literally ripped the profiteroles apart and destroyed 90% of them.
Overall I was rather disappointed 😢 It’s not like I remember having where you could easily pull a profiterole off the tower and eat it. This thing was rock solid toffee sugar and it extreme amounts! For $180 I don’t think this is what should be served. But again that’s just my opinion.
Was going to recommend a friend to order one if mine was amazing but after seeing mine and the way it was she definitely won’t be ordering one...
Read moreDined in for coffee and cannoli with a friend (July 2024). She’d never been and I proudly said I loved Gerbino’s, have had the best cannoli here, and ordered several cakes and treats over the years. It’s been maybe 2 years since I’ve been. In store dining was excellent, five stars. I also bought some frozen meals, cannoli and sfogliatella, and a large Crostata Ricotta to take home. Sfogliatella was a little chewy, but the cannoli was made while I waited and just divine. Sadly, the Crostata was riddled with mould. We’d eaten some the same afternoon and it tasted dry and pretty ordinary. I froze half, and had a quarter in the fridge. A few days later I cut another slice and the crust broke to reveal the whole thing was done for. I checked the piece in the freezer and it was the same. I sent the store a photo, and they quickly apologised and refunded me the cost of the crostata. The explanation was that they make them frequently and this must have not been rotated. As you can see, hadn’t been rotated for .. months? Unfortunately, this was still a 1 star experience. I’ll never buy from the cake cabinet again, but highly recommend...
Read moreMy previous rating of 4 Stars has now been amended down to 1 star for poor customer service. I've have been coming to this bakery for years as I was born local, but lately the customer service has been getting progressively worse culminating in today's experience. (I have noticed a lot of new faces there as of late). At 9:30 this morning I lined up to buy my usual: Pie with extra chilli, a sausage roll & large long black to wash it down. I stood patiently behind 3 friendly elderly ladies for a good 3 to 5 mins for my turn to order when 2 men in fluro tops and pants (Lycra maybe) walked up behind me. That's when when a 20 something year old women with dark hair behind the counter on the left asked the 2 men behind me what they wanted. I interrupted them and said I have been waiting in line before them and she's tell me that you're about to be served. I asked who was going to serve me to no response. I walked out after another 30 seconds as she went back to serving the 2 men in fluro.
TLDR: Poor etiquette, poor attitude.
(Stay tuned while I fine a bakery in the area that respects their customers and basic...
