Food Five of us dined, and two chose the 200g grazier’s eye fillet steaks with chips and salad, one had the beer battered fish and chips, one had a burger and I had my fav meatballs with mash, peas and gravy. Meals are expertly prepared with love, care and attention to detail and presented to the table on stylish white crockery. The steaks were tender, tasty and flavoursome. My meatballs had a firm and well cooked texture and were perfectly complemented by the creamy mash and fresh garden peas, with the whole concoction smothered in a rich, tangy gravy. I took advantage of the “seniors meal deal” where for only another $3, I received a slice of carrot cake with vanilla icing and a dollop of cream. The perfect way to end the meal.
Ordering & Service I’m finally starting to warm to the self-ordering app, and this is how the staff prefer you to order. You can now link your Monty’s Rewards card to the app, to ensure that you get the 5% discount. I spoke to staff beforehand and they assured me that if we couldn’t handle the app ordering, they would take our orders in the old fashioned way, but it wasn’t necessary. After placing our orders, the drinks were swiftly brought to the table, but after that we waited about 25 minutes for main courses. That did give us time to enjoy our drinks, and whilst I appreciate that the place was quite full, it would be nice to have slightly faster service. But again on the pos side, we found all the staff to be polite and helpful, and it was nice to see them neatly turned out in smart blue uniforms with the H.P. Hotel logo on the breast pocket.
Ambience As with all A.L.H. Group Hotels, the ambience is super casual, relaxed and laid back. We always enjoy ourselves at A.L.H. Venues and the H.P. was no exception. The interior is carpeted, with high ceilings, strong lighting, wooden panels and comfortable furniture. This works well to create a warm, homely and welcoming ambience. Tables are well spaced out making for excellent acoustics and we were easily able to converse. Being a Sunday afternoon, there was a decent turnout which gave it a lively vibe. There are a few different dining spaces to choose from, each with their own merits. We chose the main area in the middle of the venue and even though it was a chilly winter's day, it was as warm as toast inside.
Cost Prices are extremely reasonable, especially if you’re a Monty’s Rewards Club Member, which will give you a 5% discount off everything inc drinks. All up, for five of us, we paid a modest 166 pesos for three schooners, a G & T, five main meals and a dessert. You can’t beat that for value for money at any comparable restaurant. Thanks to the A.L.H. Group, the owner of this, and many other fab pub venues around Bris-Vegas, for managing to keep prices low, especially for seniors who are struggling against this tidal wave of soaring prices.
Toilets & Parking Toilets are spotlessly clean, well provisioned and easy to find, with ample male and female cubicles. Parking is a breeze in the huge parking area behind the venue, which it shares with the popular Dan Murphy’s liquor store. That makes it extra convenient to be able to stock up the liquor cabinet before you leave for home.
Summary We had a sterling afternoon at the H.P. Hotel, and everyone enjoyed it. I especially love the calm, relaxed and unhurried vibe while the tastefully decorated interior creates a warm and homely ambience. Staff are friendly, polite and helpful. Food is of the highest quality and prices are moderate, especially for Monty’s Rewards Club members and seniors. Add to that, clean and well provisioned toilets and plenty of free parking right outside the hotel, and you have all the ingredients for a fun afternoon or night out with...
Read moreVery disappointing meal/s. Will not be back and will not recommend. I ordered T-Bone with grilled prawns as topper. The t-bone eye side was very thin and the porterhouse side was a little thicker but very chewy. The prawns were a huge concern, I put one in my mouth and spat it out immediately the taste was off, they were cold and some still frozen, floppy and watery. I was so concerned that myself or someone else would get food poisoning and suggested they do not serve anymore that day. I told the waitress immediately and she went to advise the chef but never returned to give me an update. The manager then came over and inappropriately sat down at my table leaning right over a family member’s meal that was still being eaten (they had just popped to the bathroom) and proceeded to defend the chef’s reasoning why the prawns were so bad. He said the chef had told him the prawns were frozen and soaked in water (I’m assuming to defrost them), he then said he told the chef to drain some of the water out of them maybe. He also said they pride themselves on delivering quality food. That was definitely not fresh quality. I said because of the taste I was scared now for other people who may eat them. That didn’t seem to be a problem to him. The rest of the food was also very very poor. The Caesar salad was soggy lettuce and so much dressing you could not taste anything so it was inedible. The ribs were another topper that were inedible with a terrible taste definitely not delicious as ribs are. I’m not sure what was used to make the mushroom sauce but it tasted bad, a really strange taste.
The only nice part of the meal was the eye fillet that another family member had which was ok although has had much better. So for $130+ they were very poor and extremely concerning meals.
I was given $25 cash refund as I was leaving the restaurant (he never mentioned any refund while sitting at the table trying to cover the chefs reasoning) but came toward me in a strange manner and handed me the money like we were doing some kind of deal.
I WOULD...
Read moreHello eveyone and the managment team at the HP
I had an excellent time today at the HP.
I am not a brissy guy and am pleased to say I had a fantastic time with great atmosphere not to mention the service was outstanding.
In my 6-8 hrs here I bought 2 meals for lunch and dinner and am typing this before I leave the pub itself.
If it wasn't the bar staff it was the food, both meals at both occasions during the day were phenomenal, one being the 300g Rib and the other the wagyu hoping it wasn't just a fluke and maybe a possible change in cooks, my brother ordered a parmy and to my surprise rated it high as well. All 3 meals recieved were well portioned and cooked well with both steaks to my desire and the parmy moist and well topped. Every meal spot on. Not just rightly cooked but with decent portions. Price shouldn't be the factor people should judge at any venue as the economy is not good in Australia but the price was fair for what we received.
The bar staff, mainly Quenton made the day extra special. The rapport we felt and witnessed with other patrons are what really sets this pub apart from others. His friendly smile and great jokes really do make you feel like it isn't just a pub. Thank you Quenton for an amazing experience and for really ensuring the day was special. If I ever see a pub that needs a touch up, I'll be sure to reach out to this one to...
