After a long period of waiting, we finally made it back to Let Minnow. This time we dined in and had brunch. I grabbed a skinny cap and my partner had a soy flat to begin with. When the coffees came, we were a bit disappointed as they got the order wrong. We ended up having the coffees and thought they were good. I liked how the milk was frothed and that the espresso offered a hint of bitterness. Food wise, I had their egg Benny with bacon and mushrooms on the side, while my boyfriend the crab omelette. Starting with mine, I thought the Benny was divine, with perfectly poached eggs and deliciously sautéed spinach. The croissant was flaky and buttery. The bottom half went soggy in the end but was still quite nice, especially coated the hollandaise sauce and egg yolk. The bacon was well cooked and came in a decent portion. The mushrooms were juicy and tender. The omelette was good but we both thought it could have used a bit less salt. On the first bite, I could easily taste the freshness from the crab. As a matter of fact, the whole thing was packed with crab flesh, which we thought was really decent. My partner did tell me after we left the cafe that he found a piece of either crab shell or egg shell in the omelette, which was a turn off for him. For that and the saltiness of the dish, I cannot give them 5 stars. Hopefully next time we visit, it won’t happen. Service wise, it was absolutely brilliant. The waitress who greeted us was friendly and attentive and made us feel at home. Everything came in a timely fashion. The whole place offered a chill and relaxing vibe. No doubt we will come back again.

We went to this cafe on a Saturday mid-morning (peak hour). The menu had several interesting choices but is very limited for anyone who does not eat bread or eggs. The cafe was extremely busy and whilst it had a nice cosmopolitan vibe the cafe staff just couldn’t keep up with the demand of patrons. We ordered 6 meals and they did not arrive on time. Three arrived after about 25 mins and the 4and 5th ones arrived about 10 mins later but we had to ask for the 6th meal which had been forgotten altogether. One meal that was delivered to us was in fact incorrect and was taken away after our friend had already started eating. It made him feel uncomfortable and awkward and it generally just came across that staff were simply too young and inexperienced to be able to cope with high turnover and so much demand. I wish I could have given this cafe a higher rating but based on our experience a 3 is almost generous. The large coffee comes in a huge mug and was top notch value. The kids menu is diverse but orange pancakes were a no-no. They don’t have a plain pancake option for kids which made me wonder if the person planning the menu even has children of their own. I don’t know many young kids who would eat pancakes with orange rind! I think this cafe is quaint and has so much to offer especially on a quieter day when floor and kitchen staff could hopefully cope better under stress. It’s a lovely coffee cafe addition to clayfield but I would suggest that the cafe owners remove about 20% of their tables in house and focus on better and more consistent quality of service rather than under delivering to a bigger group of customers when the venue feels so loud, cramped and overwhelmed. Hope you have a better trip. A week day should be much better since the food itself seemed reasonable in quality. I will however add that one of the family members at our table got horribly sick immediately after having breakfast there and was perfectly healthy before arriving at the cafe. I have no idea if it was the food? It seems likely but the rest of us were fine. Some improvements could definitely be made. Best of luck to cafe owners. It would be nice to see this cafe succeed with a bit more hard work and focus on customer’s dining experience.

Came in with friends today and ordered the garlic mushrooms on toast, $27 later we had two small slices of a fancy bread with mushrooms and some sage and green garnishes. We ordered 3 of these dishes but 2 were to be vegan. The vegan ones came out, except one of them actually had feta on it still so it must have been a mixup but good thing we could tell. No supplement for the removal of whipped feta as the vegan version, for $27 you'd expect a bit more but instead we paid nearly $30 for a dish that was quite basic. I got halfway through mushrooms on toast when I noticed my next mushroom bite had a trace of eggshell. I was confused how something like eggshell could find it's way into a vegan dish, but I guess maybe they don't take food safety seriously? I notified the waitress who was lovely and apologetic, but for something as serious as cross contamination I was waiting for a manager to address this but nothing happened. The coffee was excellent but unfortunately this establishment isn't super vegan friendly which is sad for a neighbourhood cafe. The mushrooms on toast were good but I feel could do with a sauce or something and a bit more bread, it wasn't very filling for what it was. Would love to come back if they added more vegan dishes, as everyone can eat vegan as it's an inclusive diet.

edit: downgraded to 1 star now. why call me an idiot because i had a poor experience at your overpriced, low quality cafe? tossing up between 2 and 3 stars. the number one issue with this cafe is that it’s extremely overpriced, like beyond justification. the profit margin they’re going for is huge. i came here a year ago and it was average expensive food, i tried again now and i’d go as far as saying it was below average food and service. it took upwards of 20+ minutes for my order to be taken, despite the cafe being almost empty. i ordered an eggs benedict and was shocked at the small portion (it was $32…) and that the potato “latke” is just a potato fritter. this potato fritter really ruined the meal for me, i love salty things don’t get me wrong, but it was way too salty and the flavour seeped into the rest of the dish. the hollandaise sauce was placed underneath everything and lacked flavour. i got a very small amount of salmon. i don’t think this meal would have cost much more than $5 in ingredients. the poached eggs were the only decent thing about it all. very disappointing, i left feeling completely unsatisfied. i just don’t think this place is worth it, there’s better cafe’s around, like quality coffee in nundah.

Today it's Let Minnow in Clayfield at the old Aquarium,a busy little spot that was way too cool for me. I started with the Prahna Chai Latte a loose leaf honey soaked chai. The theatre of pouring the Chai was followed by an avalanche of spices, so much better than a syrup. I didn't get the Honey soaked flavour though. ( Probably just my old taste buds) Gem had the Sauted Truffle Mushrooms which although delicious ( apparently) lacked the much anticipated Truffle flavour (apparently) I had the Persian eggs which was surprisingly yum ( why was I surprised?) I didn't know what to expect which is the joy of trying something new I guess. Poached eggs served on a base of caramelised onion yoghurt in a bowl with added bacon. My only problem was my inability to use my knife and fork in the bowl. I figured it out and pulled bits out of the bowl onto my plate to cut them up. I originally ordered the Swimmer crab omelette ( they'd run out of crab) so not today my friend, not today. Overall this place was fantastic with great food and a good vibe. Couple of things weren't 100% to my expectations but still super high quality. I'll definately go back, next time chasing crab 🦀

Somewhere that had been on the "places to go" list for a while, I decided it was time to go. It's a cute little place, refurbished from the old Clayfield aquarium. Fish themed without much fish on the menu. What is on the menu sounds super tasty though. And from this experience, I would say it is pretty tasty too. The service was pleasant, it's a order at the counter job. The service was prompt and the prices reasonable. The staff were mostly fairly well presented. They were friendly and not in your face the whole time. They also didn't rush to take the plates away, a bit of a frustration for me when people are still eating. The food. I went for something different and tried the amazebowls. Silly pop culture puns aside, this was tasty. Dragon Fruit smoothie is an idea I haven't seen elsewhere and it was yum. It came with some dried fruit granola, coconut and cocoa nibs. An impressively considered combination. The coffee is good and sourced from Byron. The golden milk an interesting combination of spices in a warmed coconut milk... And bright yellow. All up a pleasant experience with good service, tasty food and drinks and a pleasant quirky atmosphere.
