Not impressed. I'm not usually one to review, much less leave a bad review, but my experience with Masayama was possibly the worst I've had at a Japanese restaurant.
I was out for lunch with workmates, and I ordered a Prawn Omu Yakisoba. I was eager to try, as I eat Japanese food semi regularly, but had never had an omu style noodle before.
Everyone else at my table had been served and almost finished their meals by the time mine came out. After a very long wait, my dish finally arrived. It was not what I ordered, I was given a Yakiudon with no egg pancake on top. I was quite disappointed, but not the end of the world. Looking at the receipt, the cashier must have miss heard my order, no biggie.
The server informed me that he had accidentally made it with chicken, and quickly had to make it again with prawn as I had ordered. He offered me a free drink as it took so long. I refused as I didn't want a drink, he then returned and placed one on the table in front of me as I mentioned again I didn't want it. He left without taking the drink with him.
I quickly realised why he was adamant about giving me a free drink. The Yakiudon was clearly just slapped together last minute, and they were probably embarrassed with how long it took. But just because you feel guilty, doesn't mean I feel thirsty. If I wanted a drink, I'd have ordered one.
After afew bites of my well overdue dish, I was not impressed. Probably the worst Yaki Udon I've had, and my co-workers agreed. It was also served in a broth, and almost resembled a stew. I'm not sure if this was intentional or to do with how rushed the dish was. Either way, its not what I expected, of a typically dry noodle dish.
I was very hungry and had a big afternoon ahead of me, so mostly finished the dish, minus the unexpected broth. I then placed the given drink, unopened back on the counter and left.

Read moreWas in this precinct and saw this business. I usually love sushi rolls. I purchased two takeaway. Both teriyaki chicken. Hardly any chicken. The rice was loosely rolled and fell apart when I took a bite. Also could hardly taste the teriyaki flavour. Was very underwhemed with my purchase. I note most of the 5 star reviews are years old. In response to your comment about I only give one star reviews. This is incorrect. I say how it is, if service or product is excellent I say it’s excellent. If service or product is poor I say it’s poor. It’s sad that you take no responsibility for getting a poor review as an opportunity to dissect what is said in the review and improve what the concern was all about. As for the product being discounted. If the product is of poor quality it should not be sold. If you look at all my 250 plus reviews the majority are 5 stars, 4 stars or 3 stars. If you don’t like getting poor reviews, improve and be learn from them. Mine is not the first one star review you have had. As I said in my review the majority of your 5 star reviews are over one year ago. So I wonder what is the issue this year for...
Read moreRecently dined at Masayama, and it was an extraordinary experience! The atmosphere was serene and beautifully complemented the exquisite dishes we enjoyed.
We started with the Mix Sashimi, which was a delightful array of fresh, melt-in-your-mouth fish. The flavors were pure and refreshing, setting a high standard for the rest of the meal.
Next, we indulged in the Tempura Prawn. The prawns were perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of batter, making every bite a delight.
The Aburi Salmon Nigiri was a true standout. The slight sear on the salmon brought out its rich flavors, and the texture was impeccable—soft, smooth, and simply delicious.
Finally, the Spider Roll added a satisfying crunch and an incredible mix of flavours that left us thoroughly impressed.
Overall, Masayama meet my expectations, offering a perfect blend of fresh ingredients, skilful preparation, and outstanding service. A must-visit for any...
