EDIT: Since they have seemed to change owners/management and chefs, the quality and value has unfortunately decreased. I paid $26 for a single barramundi fillet, chips and some tartare sauce. Had to wait 30 mins to finally receive it, and was left quite disappointed. Although the fish was pretty good, the chips were soggy this time. They also didn't give a lemon slice although the previous chef did. I would normally encourage to eat in-store for maximum freshness, but the atmosphere was very tense—the chefs seemed to be very rushed and stressed out, and took it out on the poor cashier girl serving the customers. Every customer waiting could hear how the chefs were scolding the girl. As I was finishing my meal, another diner returned his fish as it was not cooked properly inside. I used to rate this place 5 stars, but can only give it a maximum of 3. Not sure if I'll give it another chance.
Review before change in management: I’ve been here a few times and can honestly say that these meals were the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The fish fillets always come out crunchy on the outside while tender and juicy inside. The fries are always cooked and seasoned just right. For the price, the serving sizes are generous and always leaves you satisfied and full! Definitely recommend eating in the restaurant instead of takeaway for the best and...
Read moreUnder new management, they are very friendly and kind. The good has improved... Love the barra and cod/hoki. It's just getting better and fresher. Best fish n chips in Newmarket Ashgrove area. Make this shop your weekly fish and chips shop.
Finally a good fish and chip shop has arrived in newmarket! Ive waited 11 years for this! I would give it 4.5 stars. I've been praying for a very good local fish and chip shop at decent prices. This is better than your average local fish and chip shop. The head chef/ owner was the head chef at Seafuel seafood restaurant at Westend (another good seafood restaurant). I had the basic cod, chips and salad for $19. The fish was fresh, the beer batter was good, nice and light, not quite the texture at Peter's on the Gold Coast. I actually prefer it ever so slightly thicker, but it's good. The one issue is I wish the piece was longer and bigger (it wasn't small but more medium sized compared to Peter's or Fishes at teneriffe. The aoili/ tartare white sauce is very good. Chips were the beer battered thick cut chips - very good. The highlight was the seafood salad.... it was my favourite at seafuel. I'm so glad the chef is now here at newmarket near my church (international city church at 23 foster st, a dynamic multicultural church). Can't wait to go back. I just wish they had...
Read moreSaw this place was open and decided to give it a go. I usually steer clear of fish and chips as it's just oily and often has no flavour.
This place was on another level. I ordered the Fried Baby Octopus with Plum Sauce, Grilled Snapper & Beer Battered Chips. Everything was perfect. Fresh, hot and was not oily at all. There's a difference between frying and just dousing it in oil. This place clearly understands that. They also care about the food quality.
The service was great, shop looks beautiful, the packaging was what really impressed me. Logical, neat and thoughtful. In brown boxes not just wrapped up in paper. Which I don't mind it's traditional for most shops to do so, this factor was the cherry on top.
However I did find the quality worth paying for. It revived my love for fish and chips again. Newmarket needed a decent fish and chip shop and I think this may be it. Give it a try!
Highly recommend the Fish & Chips for 6, best value for money....
