Been coming to this bakery at least twice a week for the last 3 years since I’ve lived around the corner, Saturday morning bakery breakfast has been an informal tradition I’ve looked forward to weekly. Unfortunately the standards recently have slipped. The Bahn Mi are pre-made, wrapped in glad wrap, with soft bread, sometimes dry, but still suffice as a wholesome lunch. I didn’t have a problem with this when they were around $8 as there was always plenty of meat packed in there to make up for the shortcomings, but now they’ve gone up by $2 and the amount of meat has halved and pâté has all but disappeared, making them on the lower end of value for money as far as Bahn mi’s go. Sausage rolls and hot box pastries have gotten smaller as well and more expensive, the quality of the pastry has declined, and it seems they’re rushing cooking because more often than not the inside layers of the pastry are still gluey and only semi-cooked. Sometimes I’ll walk past on my way to the grocery store an hour before their closing time to see them putting pastries in the bin - when I ask if I can buy a few at a better deal for cash to take home and freeze, they offer them to me at the full price and say sorry there’s nothing they can do - day old, cold pastries they were in the process of throwing in the bin. Finally, they’ve just installed a new electronic payment system (old one worked just fine) with surcharges that only appear after you’ve swiped/tapped, so the approved amount is more than the amount on the terminal before paying. The same % surcharge for debit payments as well, which is strange because debit payments incur much less cost to businesses than credit payments do. Just put the extra 15c on the price of the goods, paying at a terminal only to have the number change after approval is infuriating and makes the customer feel ripped off. I understand overheads are rising and all businesses have to raise prices, but given that food quality has dropped as prices have risen, and that the financial model seems a little more disingenuous on the customers side, unfortunately i’ll be looking for a new regular bakery. The owner was very professional, communicative and responsive to my wishes for the cake and had the cake done very quickly, and wrapped very well and was still very fresh despite needing to pick it up 2 days before the birthday. Highly recommend and will definitely be ordering baked good from here...

Held together with tasty pastry that was moist and flakey at the same time. Worth a detour to try this rather unassuming strip mall hole-in-the-wall.
