I recently had the opportunity to brunch at Shingle Inn in Mt Ommaney, and I must say, my experience was quite mixed.
Starting on a positive note, the ambience of the restaurant was lovely, with comfortable seating that made it a nice place to enjoy a meal. The menu offered a good range of meal options, which is always a plus when dining out. I was looking forward to a relaxing brunch with good food.
However, my anticipation quickly turned to concern as I observed some issues regarding hygiene standards while waiting for our order. I noticed that dirty dishes and fresh food items were exchanged in the same small space with dirty dishes piled up beside fresh cooked food and in close proximity to the coffee machine clean saucers. To make matters worse, the same cloth used to wipe down serving trays was also used repeatedly to clean the bench space. This cloth was then used to wipe the outside rim of a glass containing a freshly made milkshake that was later served to a child. At that moment, it became clear to me that the hygiene practices at this establishment were not up to par, and I found myself losing my appetite.
Understanding our concerns, the supervisor I spoke with was very accommodating and offered a refund for our meal. However, I was surprised to find that the refund was not processed immediately, and as of now, we are still awaiting the funds to clear. The supervisor did provide her contact number in case the refund didn’t clear within the promised two days, which I appreciated.
It's also worth noting that while I was providing feedback about my experience, I was asked not to share my thoughts publicly. This request struck me as concerning, as I believe constructive feedback is essential for improving service and maintaining standards.
Overall, while I had high hopes for my brunch experience at Shingle Inn Mount Ommaney, the hygiene issues significantly overshadowed the positive aspects of the restaurant. I would not recommend...
Read moreUsually a frequent spot for my family; however, after today’s experience, we won’t be returning anytime soon.
Today we came to Shingle Inn Mount Ommaney to find it relatively busy, and almost every single free table with dirty plates + left-over food sitting there, collecting flies. We requested that one table be cleaned so that we could sit, to which a waitress rudely replied stating: “as you can see, we are severely understaffed”. I understand the frustrations of being busy with very few staff, but such issues are not issues at the fault of customers; rather, it’s a frustration that should be shared with management, not patrons.
However, what seems to be systemically pertinent (as shown by the slate of reviews before this), is the subpar customer service. Today was no exception. Plates and drinks dropped loudly on the table; utensils practically thrown on the table; even getting serviettes was something we had to go up to the front desk and wait in line for. The group sitting next to us had to wait 45 minutes for a sandwich and bowl of fries.
And despite this, it seems that the trend in poor customer service is not addressed; a generic reply from Shingle Inn’s head office to 1-star reviews doesn’t suffice as a means to improve customer service, and it shows. Their management of staff and deliverance of services is not sustainable.
In short, only come here if you want to see what poor customer...
Read moreMy partner and I used to buy coffee here every weekend and occasionally breakfast but not anymore. One day I ordered my usually decaf coffee with a vanilla shot, I used to go that often that the girls would know my order, this one day I ordered as usual and when I received it there was no vanilla, I went back to the register to ask for vanilla since I paid for it or so I thought, there was a miscommunication with the young lady who I ordered from. This was no problem so I offered to pay the extra 50c but as all good workers know you should appreciate your loyal customers and not ask them to pay 50c when it was their fault to begin with and as I mentioned I would go there all the time. As the worker took my cup to add the syrup the older lady (assuming manager/owner) said loudly that is not free she needs to pay for that. I was so embarrassed as it looked like I was trying to be cheap and wanting free syrup but then I just got annoyed because people like this do not deserve my business. You may have your 50c but you have lost $20 a week every week. It might not seem like much but if enough people experience this type of service and attitude then I’m sure it all adds up. I would have given you just one star but the second star is for your lovely workers who were always friendly, helpful...
