TLDR: great cakes, above average coffee, mixed bag for service

This little strip along Honour Avenue in Sherwood holds great promise, especially when you consider the average 4.5 star rating of most of the cafes along here. Three Girls Skipping came at some online recommendations so my young family decided to check it out.

Saturday morning was packed, but we were lucky to nab a great seat. Service at the counter was warm and friendly. Excellent start. The menu held some interest, especially the french toast (which I will be back to try), but the pastry cabinet had my kids all excited! We settled on two slices: the banana cake with raspberry icing, and the lemon and poppy seed cake with blueberries. Along with a simple flat white, chai latte, and 2 babycinos.

The cake slices came out quickly. The girl serving them to us noticed our small family and went back quickly to grab a couple of extra forks. She accidentally dropped one, said she's replace it... and never came back with one. When she did come back it was to stoicly ask if we were done with our dishes... perhaps she was a little stressed by the busyness of the morning?

The drinks arrived late in our meal, but the first babycino was missing the marshmallows and the second babycino took a while to arrive as well. It was a busy morning.

Anyway, these minor things didn't take away from our time there. The cakes were delicious, the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and my Genovese blend coffee (for a coffee snob) was good without being spectacular. I'll be back... perhaps on a...

I ordered an "Iced" Latte last week but when I went to collect it from the counter, my cup was very hot. I politely said to the waitress that sorry I had ordered an Iced Latte. She then snatched the docket and said to me "Nope! It doesn't say Iced Latte". I felt like saying to her, of course it doesn't say Iced Latte Einstein because YOU are the one who misheard and put the docket in. I was 99% sure I ordered an Iced Latte as it was an extremely hot day. Today - one week on, the same waitress took my order and I made sure I repeated the word "Iced" and she had to turn her ear to my mouth and told me her hearing is not so good. Then I paid with a credit card that required a signature but she pressed "No" on her machine even though it was approved. She asked me to use a different card because it didn't work. It "didn't work" because she pressed "No"! I love the food here but this waitress in particular does not instill confidence in me. Just pay attention and listen to...

I tell you what, I've only been eating avocados for eight months as I try to dodge the inflationary pressures sent by the devil, at a $1 a piece (sometimes cheaper) they are truly a gift from God... so, when I trapesed into Three Girls Skipping on a Saturday morning (is 11am still morning??) and saw that adding 'avo' was $4.50, my jaw literally hit the floor. I'm not sure if they justified the price since theyve got some sort of new breed of avocado that is ultra exclusive or the amount of avocado you got was the equivalent of a small child but either way I ain't about that funny business. The chicken katsu burger was fair price though ($18.50 pictured) for a hard aussie battler (like myself) so they've got 4 stars, I think they need to start offering avocado at the market price of the day to reach 5...

A lovely little corner cafe. The scones are amazing. Handmade, large, warmed up, served with fresh cream and quality jam on the side. The coffees are good, usually hot, unlike some other places where they serve it warm. Service is good but seems just a little too rushed at times. I know it can be a catch 22, but some customers like to have a little more time choosing from such a large range of delicious treats. Also, some of the high ranking staff could do with a little more charm and smiles. Seems forced on occasions. (Just being honest) However overall, it's just that great that I'd give it 4 stars with easy room for improvement. Ps: the picture is of an organic lemon, lime and bitters drink they offer. Very refreshing 😉
