Read moreAbysmal dining if that's an apt description! The prices on the items were higher compared to other places. Firstly, I didn't know that I had to make a reservation in advance to get a table. So all I could get was the highly elevated seating area. I ordered a Vegetariana pizza and a cafe latte. The ambience was pleasant, with good music playing in the background, but little did I know that I was in for a huge disappointment. I know that an authentic Italian pizzeria would serve their customers unsliced/whole pizzas with cutlery on the side, but only mine was unsliced while the rest of the customers were served 5-6 sliced ones to perfection. I immediately copped the feeling that people with and without reservations get treated differently. It got worse to a point where I had to devour the pizza base separately from the toppings because of its soggy nature. Also the conspicuous veggies (eggplant, mushrooms, and tomatoes) were doused in olive oil generously. But the cheese was delicious!! I guess from the level of oiliness of their pizzas they want their customers to go straight to a hospital after what they classify the place as "fine dining". It would be nice if they added that part as a recommendation on the menu😂. The kidding aside, I would rate the pizza 4/10. The latte was served cold. When it was time for payment, the customers received their checks from the comfort of their seats while I had to walk over to the counter and pay, eventhough I was served by a waitress. At the end, I got a perfunctory apology from the staff at the counter. I'm not trying to slander the reputation of this restaurant through my feedback, but they should definitely consider every individual's negative experiences and bring about some reformations to make the experience better for them...
Read more5 stars for serving staff, 2-3 stars overall for food.
We have driven past on numerous occasions, especially in the morning and they are always very busy with the lycra set. Maybe it's the coffee? We choose to go fo the 5.30-7.30pm sitting, we understand "sittings" with the limited seating.
We ordered bruschetta, seafood marinara and the lamb. The bruschetta arrived in a huge stack (including the crispy burnt edges), not an expert but think it was a thin pizza base with a dusting of garlic powder? and rosemary. We asked for some olive oil and it was given a light drizzle of oil.
My wife spaghetti marinara, she was told she could not have parmesan was disappointing, I'm not sure what she was expecting, having had it all around the world, a couple of shellfish didn't open and not a lot of flavour. The worst part was the pasta was not cooked not even al dente.
I had the slow cooked lamb, the lamb was a few chunks and excellent, came on a wet slurry, I wont say mash, of pumpkin and? with a few snow peas and carrot slices from memory.
We shared a dessert of puff pastry, custard and fruit served on an upside plate , it was excellent.
The cook didn't come out and chat, something we have experienced in many good Italian restaurants, even when they are busy, maybe he was embarrassed, maybe doesn't care, a lack of responses to reviews perhaps confirms this. We didn't pay for the marinara, the bill was $99 with a $40 bottle of excellent NZ Pinot Gri. Coffee, can't say we weren't offered it but then we weren't...
