This is the best Uyghur style chinese food in the Brisbane area outside of Sunnybank. The spicy sour rice noodles are excellent. The noodles are thick, similar to the Taiwanese rice noodle style, with fresh cucumber, peanuts, chicken, and lots of garlic. The noodles are perfectly cooked to the firm yet smooth texture and the dish, served cold, is a nice, suprisingly refreshing, spicy meal. The homemade noodles with lamb are also quite good. But the stars are the meat skewers and noodle soups. The skewers are the classic Uyghur style with lots of cumin. The broth is so rich. Its amazing to have this place so close to the University. While there are places that do some of these dishes better in Sunnybank, you need to take multiple buses from the University to get to those.
Its a little mom and pop place, and the guy serving is nice. You order from a tablet, as I think there are only two people working at this restaurant at any one given time. Its amazing what they pull off as just a tiny family place. Parking can be challenging if you drive here. It can also be slow at times (but fast at other times), and tables often aren't cleared, but if you are here, you probably weren't driving. You're here for the unique and delicious food within walking distance of work or study. Hard to beat this local place. I have no idea why the star rating is so low. Maybe people are expecting fine dining service in a little mom and pop shop. Its honestly...
Read moreI've been coming to this place for almost the entire time it's existed (over seven years now, I believe). It's an unpretentious, family-run place. Is it perfect? No, but then most small businesses aren't. But the food is great, always has been. It's a bit pricey, but the portion sizes are generous (esp the noodles), and think about what the rent must be for the area and the fact they're such a niche cuisine. If you come to restaurants like this expecting a splendid atmosphere and grovelling service, it's on you if you're disappointed.
I do feel I have to defend them against most of their bad reviews. There seem to be only two kinds: allegations that they're not halal despite advertised, and that the food was simply not good. I cannot say I know for sure whether they are halal or not, but then I cannot find any evidence of them not being so. As far as I can see, it's a rumour that's been spread and repeated with no proof ever being provided. As to the food not being good, yeah look, sometimes quality will vary; if you had a genuinely bad experience, I'd believe it because there's always a chance it could happen. But the fact that so many reviews are either 5-star or 1-star tells me that there's something more going on. I think it's important to think about who these people are and what cuisine they're selling, and then think about why some people might want to ruin their business by spreading rumours and caving...
Read moreThe food is okay. But the service is bad.
There were 2 staff at the counter (boy and girl), the boy seems like he couldn't speak english, because he looked confused when we asked something. The girl on the other hand was quite rude: no smile, spoke curtly, reluctantly explained the menu, shoved the plate between my 2 friends when serving the food and didn't seem sorry about it. We ordered DaPanji, dumplings and fried dumplings. They seemed to forget about the dumplings, and when they were reminded about it, she seemed angry.
Will not eat...
