Well where do I begin... Had a big night the night before and at the start of the tour, I was pretty sure I was on the verge of having kidney failure or a mild stroke. I was counting on a cheeky welcome mango before the show begun. But boy oh boy wasn't I the fool. The anxiety from my hangover uppercut me harder than Mike Tyson in his prime, I was trying to row a boat with just a paddle pop stick and leftover fumes from the night before. The group that accompanied me on this nightmare was unsure if I had some form of spinal bifida or early onset Parkinson's disease, I was definitely keeping everyone guessing. That was until a Man, a Myth and an absolute Legend by the name of Ken Woof came in and guided a flock of lost souls on one of the greatest beer brewing adventures known to beer loving Aussies. As all hope was diminishing from back to back video introductions and uncomfortable seating, in came Ken with his mission of spreading beer brewing fundamentals. As we were guided through the glorious halls of the XXXX alehouse , we were educated about the art and science that goes into perfecting the great golden Milton nectar. Legends of old were shared as if they were present and the origins of the alehouse were relived like a memory past. They're was no bottle or keg left unturned without understanding the history and functionality of its existence. As my ailments began to withdraw, the lifeblood of XXXX filled my heart and gave me the courage I needed to complete my journey of beer enlightenment. The taste of a chilled XXXX gold was encouraging me to push beyond my limitations as an average human being and become a hero of beer drinking legend. If it wasn't for the deliverance of Ken's beer brewing wisdom, I fear another beer loving brethren would fall victim to indulging in an uncultured and shithouse beer brewing company such as...
Read moreI have partaken in the XXXX brewery tours twice so far (I'm expecting to hit double digits before I hit the ripe age of 42). Both times, my intake of newfound XXXX history has transcended me into a better person than what I was before the tour. Coincidentally, I also end up acquiring XXXX memorabilia each time, which I proudly add to my collection.
After completing my first tour in 2019, to everyone's pleasant surprise, the masterful brewers of XXXX decided to step back in time and remade the oh-so-coveted XXXX Draught. I was not alive when XXXX Draught was voyaging its' way around Australia during the 70s, however by some miracle, the stars aligned and permitted me and my mate the prospect of enjoying this delicacy. I enquired with the bartender to confirm the quantity that was brewed, to which he replied "Only one keg". Immediately, my mate and I cancelled the rest of our plans for the day to continue relishing the XXXX Draught elixir as we could not ascertain if we would ever be afforded this opportunity again in our lifetimes. The taste of XXXX Draught cannot be described through words but is to be appreciated with mates and plentiful banter.
Unfortunately, during my second tour, the infamous XXXX Draught did not make a comeback. Instead of bawling my eyes out, I interpreted this moment in my life as an embodiment of the saying "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened".
I also attended this fine establishment during my mates buck's party pub-crawl.The staff were more than happy to accommodate for this special occasion (to be brutally honest, I firmly believe that some of the staff members wished that they could have also participated). The food was also of high calibre as was the merchandise.
Similar to how the Qld origin team won 8 in a row, I would rate all of my...
Read moreWe booked the XXXX Tour several months before we were visiting Brisbane. At the time of booking their system had a glitch and allowed us to book on a public holiday when they would be closed. They emailed us saying this wouldn't work and we suggested a new day/time when the tour was running. On the day of the tour we arrived early only to be told by the manager that our booking was for the next day and we had it wrong. We were leaving Brisbane that evening and they refused to change our booking because "we had already changed it once before." Note, this change was because of their booking system not us changing our mind.
We went downstairs and looked at our booking and the email trail again and saw we were in fact there on the right day and time. By this time the tour had already started. The manager took 5 minutes typing on his computer, looking at our phone booking, typing again. No apology, no recognition of his wrongdoing or taking ownership of the situation. Instead demanding we follow and join the tour group late. Not off to a great start!
The tour guide was very knowledgeable but it was a very hot day and there was little air-conditioning, and at some points we felt faint. We came on a weekday and was only told when we started that the factory would not be in use on the day we did the tour, so we spent 1.5hrs looking at idle machinery.
We have been on many factory tours around the world and this would be the worst. The XXXX history is very interesting and it is a shame the experience was so poor. Tours should not run on days where the factory is not in use, and management should improve their communication skills.
Credit however goes to our tour guide, Ken, who could see our dissatisfaction and tried to keep the tour as up-beat and interesting...
