The pie was great, the coffee ok and the service absolutely terrible. I stood at the counter for 5 minutes before anyone even acknowledged me. The older lady was standing directly in front of me making a sandwich, she caught my eye a few times, but completely ignored me until she had delivered it to a customer and then come back and cleaned up the area - not even a hello. When she came back, she grunted 'what do you want'. Nice. I ordered my coffee and pie, and asked her for 1 sugar - she shrugged her shoulders at me and, indicating to the other lady at the coffee machine, said 'you can tell her'. When the second lady handed me my coffee and walked away, I asked about my pie, as the pies were in the display in front of me, and I assumed someone would get one from there. This lady snapped 'it's in the kitchen, it's coming soon', as if I should have known that the pie would have to come from the kitchen, not from the display like most places! I placed my order of a salad sandwich, to which she asked something of me. 'Pardon?' Murmur (or so it seemed). I step closer. 'Pardon'. Repeated seeming murmur over noise of air extractor, I suppose. Me; 'I am sorry, but I do not understand'... To which she responded with that same murmur.
I did not know what to do, so left the counter for my companion to place their order.
My advice to the woman in the WFT FX top is stand up taller, stand closer to the counter... and project your voice - with a smile in within.
The salad sandwich was refreshing and pleasing - but I won't be back. Thank you...

She settled instead for a perfectly cooked Big Breakfast and declared the bacon superb...so much better than she has tasted in the US. Chance encounters remind me of how connected we all are. A G'day where are you headed had us laughing as the bike traveller said he was heading home...to my tiny locality. Small world indeed! Detours will be on our return to list as it makes a good break before heading to Newcastle. Our little towns would thrive if we all took a Detour when travelling...
