Nicola's — Restaurant in Bunbury

You advertised that your restaurant is an Italian restaurant, so we would be expecting traditional and authentic Italian food. When paying the bill, we were not asked if the Bolognese was Authentic or not. I didn’t bring your wait staff down, I’m just stating the fact that we were being watched and they were “overly zealous”, constantly trying to push us to order more drinks or order some desserts. You have good reviews but you had many bad reviews too. We can’t speak for your other customers, this is just our opinion based on what we had tasted at your restaurant and what we had observed about your wait staff, so it’s not “nasty” like what you said. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. We do agree with several of the bad reviews such as “Basically Nicola's is what a non Italian's idea of what Italian food is like and not what an Italian would eat”, “It lacked taste”, “over rated and pricey” and a couple mentioned your awards undeserved.

This is our first visit to this restaurant. When we were looking at the menus, we were asked 3 times if we were ready to order our food within less than 10 minutes! For $28, this is the most expensive Bolognese we ever had. The mince was course, the sauce was bland, and the pasta nothing outstanding considering they claimed they are a “traditional Italian” restaurant. The Bolognese is the “cheapest” main on their menu! Didn’t feel comfortable at this place, we felt we were being watched all the time as the wait staff were constantly patrolling the restaurant and keep asking us if we want more drinks once we finished ours. They also did the same to other customers. When we finished our mains, one of them quickly come over to remove our empty plates and glasses, then asked if we want more drinks. We said no, then the wait staff started promoting their desserts. We were not impressed with their pushy and “over-zealous” wait staff and their overpriced food menu. ...

Nicola’s has been my favourite for many years. I highly rate all the food including the Chilli Mussels, however tonight was much different. The following is what I posted onto my FB page for others opinions and 99% came back and said no to eating unopened mussels. However your Chef thinks its ok and may have mentioned that its then on me via the waitress, if I choose not to eat them after they were taken back to the kitchen and opened. This is what really got me upset. In addition to my comments below, the couple sitting opposite me, well we got along quite well because they got my mussels taken to them and I had their dessert taken to me. Then we left at the same time and the man said he could hear the chef’s or staff arguing at the rear kitchen when he went to the toilet. This may or may not be related to my experience. Either way, I wont be returning to soon or at all. The same waitress tried to charge me for the mussels when in reality, this should have been removed from my bill and was with the managers intervention.

“Has anyone ever heard of chilli mussels that dont open at all are safe to eat!!!! I ordered an entree size that contained about 20 or so mussels in beautiful sauce and 10 didnt open. Fully Sealed. After I dipped the bread in the sauce i placed the unopen mussels back in the sauce and told them that 1/2 didnt open. The waitress took them back to the kitchen and the chef opened them all and said they were fresh and they were returned to me to eat. i said I have never heard of that before. im not eating those. She said that its on me if I dont eat them. Both of my veins in my neck fully expanded. Im patient most of the time. I like coming here. Whats everyone’s opinion on this...
