It was the fresh fruit salad and sweets that first stopped me in my tracks - it looked as though it had just been cut up without any of the browning and drying out that other fruit salads on display get. It was delicious, with no seeds, rind or nasty surprises that you may get with some other cafes. On my second visit I had scones, jam & cream. The scones are light and fluffy, though they don't sag in the middle when you pile on the plentiful amounts of jam and cream that accompany them. I was planning to go back for some lemon meringue pie, but was still full from the scones. They don't have an appreciable range of savoury vegetarian dishes, but that doesn't mean you won't find something delicious anyway - I have returned many times and still not tried all of the cakes. Each time the staff are friendly, the place is spotlessly clean and the food is fresh and delicious. They employ real bakers and chefs, and the quality and freshness is top notch every time, not to mention the large variety of cakes and sweets. I have never seen browning or dehydration on any of the fruit, and there are no mushy defrosted blueberries or strawberries for this establishment. The prices reflect this - a bowl of fruit salad is $10 but they don't skimp on portion size and it (all) tastes as good as it looks. Coffee is treated with respect in this place, as are the customers.
Absolutely recommended, 5/5 stars. Do yourself a favour. 1st floor at Cairns Central...
Read moreOver priced food and rude staff Food and drinks are over priced and taste plain. We were not going to complain about the food. However, it is the bad experience we had there made us want to rate 1 star. My husband and I finished our food and were finishing our drinks. A senior female staff walking past our table tapped on the table and told us to leave as they need to pinch the table.
When she said that she didn't stop at our table and didn't even look at us! She just TAPPED on our table and told us we need to leave!!! I was really SHOCKED by the way she behaved, so I wasn't sure whether she was talking to us. I looked at her. She then stopped and turned around speaking to us 1.5 metre away from our table. 'We are busy, we need to pinch your table', she said that very impolitely and unfriendly. We left straightaway and will never come back.
We understand they were busy at lunch time. However she could approach us more politely instead of tapping on the table while walking past and told customers to leave without even...
Read moreI recently had a disappointing experience at a cafe that left a bitter taste. I had just settled in for breakfast, and the elderly gentleman serving me was delightful, encouraging me to order while I worked on some emails. However, my pleasant start quickly turned sour when the owner's arrogant son approached me and rudely insisted that I leave, claiming it wasn't an office. Instead of addressing me politely, he made a smart comment while clearing my cup, as if my presence was an inconvenience now that I had finished my meal.
When I confronted him about his rudeness, his dismissive reply of “you can do whatever you want” only added to my frustration. It’s disheartening to encounter such disrespect, especially in a place meant for relaxation and enjoyment. While I understand cafes have their policies, treating customers with courtesy is essential. This experience has ensured that I will not be returning, and I’ll be sharing my experience with others to warn them about the lack of...
