If you’re in Cairns and craving authentic, flavour-packed hot pot, Suan Suan is the place to go. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with friendly smiles and an atmosphere that feels both vibrant and cosy.

The broth selection is incredible – rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. Whether you go for the spicy mala kick or a soothing herbal base, you can tell everything is made with care. The ingredients are top quality: fresh seafood, beautifully marbled meats, and a huge variety of crisp veggies and handmade dumplings. Every bite bursts with freshness.

What really sets Suan Suan apart is the attention to detail – the dipping sauce bar is a dream, letting you customise your perfect flavour combo, and the staff are always attentive without hovering.

We left absolutely full, happy, and already planning our next visit. If you’re a hot pot lover (or even if you’ve never tried it before), Suan Suan is a must-visit in Cairns.

Pro tip: Come hungry, try at least two broths, and don’t skip the handmade noodles at the end – they’re the perfect...

This restaurant comes highly recommended! Once you taste their food, you’ll find yourself wanting to visit again and again.

Aside from their delicious buffet wagyu, they also offer kid-friendly food options, making it an excellent choice for families.

The highlight of our visit was celebrating my husband’s birthday with a buffet dinner. A special thanks to Peter, who organized the birthday surprise so perfectly. You can easily message him through their Facebook page for reservations or any special requests. Peter, along with the rest of the team Suan went out of their way to surprise my husband with an on-the-house cheesecake—and yes, it was free! Our son absolutely loved it.

All the staff were incredibly friendly and approachable. They promptly assisted with refills for the buffet, ensuring everything was perfect throughout the meal.

This restaurant is now at the top of our favorites list. Thank you again, Peter and the entire team, for the amazing experience.

We can’t wait...

Sorry for the blunt truth, but there was NO service. It seems self-explanatory, but it's not for customers who don't know how to eat hot pot. You eat hot pot with dipping sauces. There was no communication what's so ever from the staff, and when I wanted to ask things, most didn't speak English. When I realised near the end of our meal that sauces were missing and asked, they told me the sauces were on the bench at the back of the restaurant. Sesame oil had a sign "vinegar," so I poured it in.... etc etc. I saw no care or customer service here. You pay $50 per person, then write down what you want or het up and pick from the buffet, and the rest is as good as your guess! And the staff do minimum as possible. I wonder what percentage of the customers actually know how to enjoy the real "hot pot". This place can be so much better, but they are getting a 4.5 star review already, so I don't...

One of the better hot pot restaurants in town. Good variety of food. The hot pot uses induction cooker which reduces heat for the customers. Each customer has their own pot so you don’t need to share pot with anyone. You can also choose your own soup flavour. Buffet comes with free standard soft drink. Beers are extra. If you change your mind and change the soup, there is an $8 fee as well. If you are local to Cairns, you can sign up for member discount. For most people, spring water, mushroom, or traditional soup are the best bet. Tom yum if you want something a bit different. Yes they have various veggies, tofu and mushroom as well for vegetarian. WARNING: the pepper spicy soup is NOT for the faint of heart. If you can’t eat fresh chillies then don’t even think about it. Even if you can eat raw fresh chillies, this is still something else.

During our recent visit to Suan Suan Restaurant, we were thoroughly impressed by the authentic and delicious cuisine, paired with exceptionally friendly service. The variety of soup bases and the extensive buffet selection of meats, vegetables, and seafood provided a delightful hotpot experience. The atmosphere was inviting, and the staff, especially Pheter and Diana, went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable dining experience. Their attentiveness and warm hospitality truly stood out. We highly recommend Suan Suan for anyone seeking a remarkable hotpot meal in Cairns.
