Remember how excited I was to try Emperor's Kitchen in Cannington after loving their Leeming location? Turns out, excitement quickly curdled into disappointment. Maybe it was a post-Covid hiccup, but this place felt like a pale shadow of its dim sum greatness.
First, the menu. It was like someone shrank it in the wash! Half the size, half the fun. Gone were my beloved pan fried dumplings (sob!), leaving only the deep-fried squid tentacles to hold the fort. While the food itself was decent, the limited selection left me feeling hangry for more.
Then there was the service. Imagine a dim sum experience without trolleys merrily rolling by, tempting you with their delicious cargo. Yeah, that's what we got. One measly visit by the trolley at the start, then radio silence for the rest of our half-hour stay. We practically needed megaphones to summon staff whenever we craved something.
Speaking of summoning, our tea mysteriously vanished after a staff member whisked away the teapot. Turns out, they weren't refilling it, just taking it elsewhere. So there we were, high and dry, with no further libations. To add insult to injury, the cashier casually charged us for the non-existent tea and shrugged off our concerns. Talk about a thirst trap!
Look, I'm all for efficiency, but this felt more like a cattle prod than a dim sum experience. It seems like their strategy is to get you in, feed you quickly, and shove you out the door – not exactly how I want to spend my precious weekend brunch.
So, will I be back? Absolutely not. My dim sum fix will be sought elsewhere, preferably at Emperor's Kitchen Leeming where, hopefully, the magic hasn't disappeared. As for Cannington, they've got some serious work to do if they want to reclaim their dim sum crown. Until then, my advice is to steer clear unless you're okay with a limited menu, absent trolleys, and phantom teapots. You've been warned!
I also just remembered that there was peanuts in the chicken feet dish. Luckily I didn't have any otherwise I might have had to make a mad dash to the...
Read moreHORRIBLE SERVICE!!!! My family spent $400 on my mums birthday meal and purely due to the rude man that struts around the cashier we will not be back! The food actually was quite nice but we won’t be back from the way we were treated. I ordered a peking duck course for our family and every person of Asian background knows that it comes as an entree because of the peking duck pancakes. When they started bringing out 2 then 3 dishes I enquired with staff politely, we ordered the Peking duck pancake with 3 courses doesn’t that come out first? Amongst all the chatter between staff then the rude man came to talk to us in a very LOUD AND CONDESCENDING tone … “YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE DUCK, IT TAKES TIME HAVE PATIENCE THIS IS NOT FAST FOOD” Then he walked off. What on earth did we do to deserve that answer? After a few dishes came out … as he was delivering one of the last dishes he shouts at us.. “WHY HAVEN’T YOU STARTED EATING?!?!” I shouted back “BECAUSE THERE IS NO RICE!!!!!” He replied with “ok ok why you didn’t tell someone… I got get it!” Come on after all your staff bought out 7 dishes not one of them realised why we weren’t eating maybe because the one essential thing hadn’t been bought out! My goodness then at the very end the last dish was Peking duck pancakes, well well well there wasn’t anywhere to put it was there??!??! So instead of serving us the pancakes like most Chinese restaurants do he just shifted plates around and dumped it on our table. NEVER EVER WILL WE BE COMING BACK EVER AGAIN!!! ABSOLUTELY...
Read moreWorst dinner experience ever. The manager had a really bad attitude when we had a problem with the food that we ordered. Ordered the pork ear salad which should be a marinated meat and salad already mixed and ready to eat . Came out with cabbage and sauce underneath a cold slab of pig ear in jelly straight out of a can. When we asked the manager if that's the way it should come (completely different from the picture on the menu) he said 'I'll give you $100 to go next door to McDonald's and get big Mac that looks exactly like it does on the menu.' After trying it himself and saying that's fine, That's how it should be and telling us the meat was marinated and we were wrong he proceeded to argue with us angrily. Eventually he took it off the bill (because he didnt have time to argue with us which i pointed out he had been doing for over 2 minutes) at which point he went into the kitchen and started yelling at the staff and pointing at us and calling us names. He then berated us for eating any of the meat because now he has to pay the cost himself. Most unprofessional management I've ever experienced . We used to come here at least once a week but won't be back ever again....
