A casual Italian restaurant located just across from Claremont Quarter Shopping Centre.
We arrived early with no reservation & was able to be immediately seated at a table for 2 inside. Host was friendly, welcoming & lovely.
We ordered the frites with aioli $14 to share. As usual, my son immediately opted for the steak whilst I opted for the carbonara plate. At first we were advised that at night they donât actually serve steak but maybe as the host saw the disappointed look on my teen sonâs face, she checked with the kitchen & thankfully the chef agreed to make an exception much to my sonâs delight & me relieve! đ
Both main meals came to the table which took almost 45 minutes although we were the only patrons since it was around 5pm. Any longer though it wouldnât be acceptable. We also waited the the frites didnât even come until we almost finished our meal. At one stage we were wondering if they have forgotten it.
Scotch Fillet with pickled bell pepper & carrots & horseradish sauce $49
Carbonara : spaghetti carbonara. guanciale, pepper, egg, pecorino $29
Frites with aioli $14
Steak was requested to be cooked medium rare & my son found it to be cooked medium. Some parts were quite burnt & the pickled veggies tasted strange as they were scattered all over the steak & as they were served cold - he felt that they didnât feel they belong to the dish. A simple steamed vegetable or two would have fared better.
I found the carbonara to be cooked well & quite tasty - to be honest, however I have had better elsewhere. - eg : Maruzzella (East Perth) or Catalano Family Kitchen (Mount Lawley)
We also note the servings were rather small for the price - not really in line with the âItalianâ way where theyâre usually serving generally more generous & meant for sharing.
The total bill was about $94 (no drinks) which filled us up but we believe they could do better in the areas mentioned above.
All in all OK, but nothing to rave about. Probably not somewhere we would consider...
Read moreWe got the snapper ceviche, squid salad, gnocchi and steak. The steak was sold as a dry aged Wagyu for $65. It was leather boot tough and parts could not be cut through. It was a very poor cut and I think the chefs did the best they could with the poor meat they had. There were pieces of steak we could not even chew. They also didnât serve steak knives so you were required to cut through the leather steak with a normal knife, which was not very successful. The remainder of the food was fine. Most of the staff were very friendly but I would not recommend any establishment that would serve that poor cut of meat. I strongly recommend against eating here. I then raised it with the staff member when paying and he treated us as if we were trying to get a free meal, even though we insisted a number of times on paying for the steak. He said âthis is the dish we receive the most compliments onâ and made a few comments to suggest we were making it up. He said to the staff member within earshot âdid they raise it?â at least twice. The staff member confirmed there was steak on our plate we couldnât eat. We didnât raise the issue at the time as we were prepared to pay for it and didnât have time to wait for another meal to be cooked. I walked out of the venue feeling bad and like I had done something wrong when I had been served a poor cut of meat (which I had insisted on...
Read moreCame in for lunch after shopping in the quarter. I was drawn in by the laid back yet refined look of the place and was hooked by the well thought-out interior and friendly staffed who greeted us as soon as we walked in. The dining room was well lit and felt private despite it being relatively small, never felt too close to another table or to far from the action. The open kitchen with full views of the wood fire definitely made for good entertainment throughout or dining experience. And what an experience it was, the wine list was a journey and it was hard to pick each time we ordered as we wanted to try it all. The story was the same for the food everything sounded brilliant and tasty but best of all it didn't disappoint. The food came out and every bite was enjoyable and unique the only downside is I didn't have 2 stomachs to fill with everything on the menu. Will be back and bringing lots of friends so I can full my dream of smashing some great bottles of wine and having at least one bit of everything on the menu. Thank you again to the wonderful staff at corvo and especially to the owner Alo who gave us great directions on the wine list and made brilliant conversation. Also if you go and don't try the gnocchi and quail you have...
