Daimonji Sushi Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Claremont

Have eaten there twice before and the food was excellent but went there yesterday and the food was totally awful. For starters for a sushi train Japanese restaurant there was virtually no food on the sushi train at 1pm. As in just some canned tuna sushi going around with lots of empty train in between. We ordered hot food using the QR code which was delivered via the robot train and the chicken teriyaki and tempura prawns were barely warm which indicated that they had not been freshly cooked (especially as the restaurant wasn’t overly busy). The chicken was dry and chewy and the skin was rubbery and it was obvious that they had just thrown warmed up strips of precooked chicken on the plate and squirted some teriyaki sauce on it. The tempura prawns had no crunch and we had to eat them as quickly as possible before they went completely cold. We paid extra for wagyu gyozas and it was obvious again that these had been reheated and not cooked freshly. Very disappointed as we had liked this place before but we won’t be wasting our money on it again...

This restaurant is really below average. The food is just fine, nothing to write home about but the service is terrible. Especially the managers. When we had a complaint about our food being delivered to the wrong table (and eaten by them) we were told that we would have to wait another 15 minutes for our food after already waiting 15 minutes. When the timing was brought up to the manager she simply replied that it was a mistake and still expected us to pay for the full meal! The manager didn't seem apologetic and it was only after pushing did she reduce the overall price by 50%. We have given this restaurant ample opportunity before to be as good as it once was but that time has come to an end. If you're looking for a sushi train in Claremont then look...

Updated review; Having come back after a year working away, I had their takeaway sushi again, and it was primo. Came in a little later, and no issues with quality. Excellent quality again. Dine in experience seems to have maintained the quality it had previously. Definitely going to be my go to for lunch once again!

Review originally made 2022~; The dining experience is pretty good, food usually seems fresh and tastes good. Pricing is reasonable. The takeaway side though, the sushi always smells a bit off. Had some salmon sushi that made me feel sick, and haven't been back unfortunately for takeaway sushi. The spicy katsu chicken rolls do rock normally. The Bento boxes and hot meals are excellent though. Great...
