A Japanese restaurant with a interesting and extensive menu that's both familiar and yet a little different. As you walk in, there's a main dining room with your usual table configurations, and to the left is a semi private dining room with traditional sunken seating for a more special experience for groups.

We were a small group and tried quite a few dishes. The main dishes, largely dons, we ordered were average. The eel was a bit rubbery and sweet, the teriyaki was a decent standard but the sauce a bit salty, the Udon was average in taste, and the pork ribs was nicely well braised but the sauce again a bit too salty. The appetisers and sushi rolls were well made and good.

Service was very good, but with some tweaks to the hot food, this restaurant could be great. There's a surcharge for using...

Ok for sashimi, and maybe sushi rolls. We ordered the Sashimi Large Platter, Salmon sushi roll, Karaage Don and Pork Rib Don. The sashimi was quite pricey, but at least it was fresh and the cut was thick. For context, We were served 4 slices of salmon, 4 slices of kingfish and 4 little scallops and that costed us 50 AUD. The Salmon roll had cooked salmon inside the roll and was dry, which is a bit disappointing. But I love the generous salmon sashimi on top of the rolls. I live nearby, so might come back for sashimi or sushi roll cravings, but won't go near the dons again. They were soggy and the flavours were all over the place, neither unique...

Pleasing food quality overall: Fried oysters and soft shell crabs bear rich taste of their own kinds (not experienced in many local "Japanese restaurants" in the same price tier). Raw scallops are juicy and sweet. Eel served on rice is tender in texture. Salmon on sushi roll is notably fresh, with decent amount of fried prawn and avocado inside each. Squid is well-grilled but still juicy. Spicy beef focuses on hotness, unlike a lot of caterers which bundle "sweet" and "hot" together.

There's room for improvement, though, as preparation time is a bit longer than expected, but I'd rather wait than having...

I’ve been here a few years ago and quite enjoyed it but this time round, I was quite disappointed. Although the place is small, it’s atmosphere for dining isn’t too bad. Food overall was average, not the very authentic Japanese flavours but still taste good. Chicken karage was nice but a bit over done, colour too dark from deep frying. The chicken Teppanyaki was an absolute disappointment… you pay for a main dish price but gets only tiny portion of chicken on the plate (see photo) which is absolutely ridiculous considering chicken aren’t that expensive to buy. The sauce for it was also super salty. Not sure if I’d return again.
