Came to Fifteen Tables with high hopes that it could be that tucked away restaurant where wife and I could make a regular hangout, instead left us thinking we won't come back. The menu was interesting, drinks list needed work and we had the place almost to ourselves. Started with Sriracha chicken wings, perfectly cooked wings with no hint of seasoning nor sriracha, a white sauce meant to be ranch dressing, coming across as bland. Main was BBQ pork ribs and their duck, both items wife and I have eaten plenty of over the years. Ribs came out dry/tough the first time, fresh batch made, second time better but not what either of us would call tender/juicy, sauce didn't taste right (rancidish). Chips were perfectly cooked, but again lacked seasonings, came across as bland. Duck was perfectly cooked, veggies a little under, but again, lacked seasonings to bring out the flavour of the dish. Left disappointed, for us another mediocre restaurant with no...
Read moreSo grateful that the recommendation from our hotel was for Fifteen Tables. Walking distance from where we were staying on a beautiful evening, we decided to test our luck and found it nearly empty. We ate a mushroom risotto and a marinated chicken dish with a mixed side salad, both were fresh and tasty. Not sure how much fat they had in them but they were filling but not heavy, so we managed to squeeze in dessert of lemon tart and banana caramel cake. I cannot tell you how happy I was to be served English breakfast tea leaves, in a pot, with a tea cup and milk. Sounds so simple, I know, but it was the first good cuppa in two weeks. The service was low key and friendly. I would say these people really know what they are doing. I was puzzled by some of the reviews below, but I guess everyone has an off day. If you are catching the ferry to the mainland this is a real gem and I...
Read moreWe were seated without offer of drinks or a menu until 5 mins had passed, the wait time for service was frustrating. The 1 hour and 10 min wait time for our mains was even more frustrating giving that there were only 10 other people in the restaurant. The share plates we ordered were a let down, the buffalo wings are about 1/3 the size that you would expect and bland. 2 people from our group of 4 ordered the $43 steak, do not expect to be given a steak knife for your 110 gram steak, they don’t have any. We were told that we don’t need a steak knife and that the steak was not tough but we were cutting our steak the wrong way!! The high cost of this dismal experience is an embarrassing representation of what Tasmania has to offer. To think this place could be the last meal of tourists before leaving our state leaves a bad taste...
