Central Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in Devonport

We had the unpleasant experience of dining at one of the most over-rated pub restaurants in Devonport. It is in a great location on the port. Once inside, we were one of the first tables to be seated at 6pm. Window table, as requested. We waited 1 hour and 50mins for all food to arrive! There is no doubt that in this establishment on this particular night the kitchen staff weren't on their best game, and the wait staff were happy to have a relaxed chat with each other rather than clear an increasing number of emptying, dirty tables than serve bar customers and actually carry out their job description.

The service is the sort that one would expect from a fast food chain, but without its speed and simplicity. It seemed like a competition between wait staff as to who could take the longest time in ignoring unattended, used tables and noticing customer's needs.

After having endured all this, the thought of enjoying a good meal seemed to us impossible, this is when things turned really interesting. The entrees arrived, then 45mins later the kids meals arrived. What was presented to us was a couple of huge $14 kids meals, then followed at least 30mins later by a tiny lamb salad.....with a 1cm cube of lamb, and the dish was a third of the size of the kids meal....at $38!! At this point we returned the lamb salad and asked where the meat was.

At this time, we had enough of the torture and paid for our order, minus the lamb dish. I won´t comment on the price because whoever pays to be taken for a fool deserves to be one. Never again will I spend my money at this group of businesses in the area. Such an awful experience for what we thought was a high quality establishment. Staff were friendly but helpless, using lots of 'run of the mill' hospitality excuses. Food was OVERPRICED!! Do yourself a favour,...

My friend and I were sitting outside chatting when a group of 3 noticeably intoxicated men walked up to us and started making inappropriate jokes. Without provocation one of the men aggressively tried to touch my friends face. Two of them then flashed their butts when we asked them to stop, leave us alone and ignored them. To avoid them we moved away to walk inside. As we did this one of the men moved towards us, dropped his pants and exposed himself to us while laughing and shouting “ look at this”. He began to walk closer so we rushed inside to notify security. There was none and the bar manager said not to worry and if it happens again they will take action. Exposing yourself in that manner is unacceptable, it made us very uncomfortable and we left as a result. The bar staff should have taken immediate action and removed the perpetrator. Also, with a full bar I would have expected to see security. I am unsure on the laws here, but would also expect that you should not be serving alcohol to intoxicated persons.

EDIT: Response to owner. There was no security and there were only two staff on the bar both of which were female, one who claimed to be the manager. All the intoxicated men were holding drinks served to them by your bar staff. This situation was not handled as the men remained at the bar while we were forced to leave feeling violated and extremely disappointed in the reaction from the manager. We went to the central restaurant for my birthday on a monday night. We booked a table for 6:30. We arrived slightly early and all was good. We processed to wait for a drinks waiter to come around to the table and she didnt seen to really care too much. After a reasonable period of time had passed, We asked if we could please order meals as we have family traveling and our little one was tired. The response we recieved was we only have one available waiter to take your order and theres quite a few tables infront of you so she will be around shortly. Then we proceeded to wait until after 7:30 to order our tea. We asked if our daughters meal could come out first so she could eat before she falls asleep. During this time the drinks waitress came and collected empty drink but didnt offer our table any refills. We had to go up and get them when we needed to. We proceeded to wait until well after 8 for our meals. We asked to cancel our daughter meal as it was taking way to long and she was asleep. We were told they couldnt cancel as it was cooked and ready to come directly. We waited and nearly all the other meals came out and her meal came out nearly last as was cold (the salmon for out daughter).
