7 by the Lake — Restaurant in District of Canberra Central

Hello Friends, last week, I went to this restaurant as I wanted to try some indian style food ,I was just new in the town and would love to explore foods around the town. We ordered couple of curries and few Naan ( A fluffy bread made from plain flour with a butter on top of it) and some flat bread (made from wheat floor), I was given my order after waiting of 30 minutes and there was watery currie gravy i found and the flat breads were not properly cooked at all and I asked the manager/owner to give me replacement and and he provided another (half cooked) and then we had discussion about the food and he told me "Do not come here" and after few time we had more discussion and then he told us to "Get lost".

so, overall I was not satisfied AT ALL with food provided and definitely did not like a customer service provided AT ALL. This was the WORST customer service I have experienced in any restaurant in Australia in last 10 years.

This restaurant deserves some recognition! Food- the food tasted fantastic. The entrees were a bit late but the amazing taste made us forget the waiting time! We also ordered ghee roast lamb, chicken lababdaar, paneer mughlai and daal makhni. All the curries tasted very well. The best part was unlike other Indian restaurants, here different curries tasted actually different which shows some serious dedication from chefs. Naan tasted so beautifully crisp and fresh!! It was really very impressive.

Service- The waitress that served us was extremely kind and understanding. She greeted us with a smile which never vanished throughout the service. She did a superb job tonight. (18/1/2025)

Atmosphere- The only major drawback of this restaurant is it’s atmosphere. Lots of things around need a change such as chairs are gross and dirty. The tables are really old. Cutlery needs a change too!

There is a lot of potential in this restaurant if the team remains same. Good luck everyone for your future with this place.

Pathetic slow service, average food.. Very very disappointed. The slowest food service I've ever seen! We walked in at 7 and left at 10... Three hrs!! And we just ordered one biriyani (tasted like chicken gravy and rice) and two starters.. That's it. The wait staff was inexperienced... We had to request them to give us cutlery, napkins etc. Pathetic for an overhyped place like this. Very disappointed. The food wasn't worth the wait either. Never going back.

17/12/20 Visited the place 2 years after my first review. Still terrible food. The chef really needs to review his recipes. Chilli chicken and chilli paneer were soy sauce drenched super salty and just terrible. The malai kabab was dry, no hint of malai, just served on fancy sizzle iron pans doesn't make the food good. The only item that was palatable was the mango lasso. Terribly disappointed spent $111 for this. Obviously the chefs and management haven't taken any note of the bad reviews and worked on improving the food. Never...
