Beautiful venue, let down by poor service and barely edible food. Staff are too busy to greet you when you walk in. Once order was taken at the register you walk yourself to dirty tables that had not been cleaned. Spent 10 minutes trying to wave down servers who refuse to make eye contact. After requesting a clean a girl grudgingly did a cursory wipe and barely removed any food stains from the table. Food scraps were wiped to the floor under the table, which were already full of scraps. Requested for water only to be told that due to COVID you can only buy bottled water (Why? customers can reuse cutlery but not water glasses? Not aware of any other Canberra cafe charging for water). Food was equally disappointing. My calamari salad ($22) had 3 small pieces of calamari and they tasted bland, greasy and rubbery, worse than at a basic fish and chips joint. The watermelon in the salad was soft and limp, definitely not fresh. A $5 Coles salad would be better than this. Hot chocolate came out lukewarm and after I already finished my food.... Safe to say I will not be...

It's my second visit and first visit for my wife.

First, on our arrival, staff was taking dirty dishes but left tables uncleaned. He never came back to clean until I asked him to clean.

Second, my cappuccino was probably the second worst coffee I had in Canberra. Nespresso capsule coffee might be far better than this.

Third, Egg Benedict with mushrooms was salty and hollandaise sauce was not typical one you can have from other shops, but is it better? Definitely not for me and my wife.

Fourth, the chicken burger I ordered was served with chips. Chips were looking awful and it was warm temp not hot chips for $24 burger. Personally Grilled burger might be ten times better and cheaper.

The last filtered coffee was little different idea between myself and wife. I was ok with coffee but my wife said it was very thin that cafe used very little amount of coffee beans. It was just a small cup full coffee for $9 but very thin.

When we looked around other tables, so many tables left their food and coffee and we now know the reason.

It's not worth another visit in...

Today my husband got a cup of coffee here and we went to the table which was in the balcony. After about 10 minutes, one Asian female staff began to collect the chairs around us that made very loud noise just like we were in the building site! I was wondering if they would close soon or this Asian female staff just wanted to push us away by this way? My husband has to be hurry to finish his coffee and we had to go. But when we went through the front room, some gusts were still having their coffee there and someone was just getting his coffee… No any sign showing that they would close soon! And I found they normally close the cafe at 4:30 pm but this Asian staff just collected the chairs around us and made the very loud noise around us at 3:00pm! She just wanted to push us to leave! We were really disappointed with the service here! Never come back and not recommend...

Handy little cafe well placed in the Canberra Centre to floor diagonally opposite Oroton. Tasty small healthy meals and larger burger with chips options. Good coffee, pleasant staff. Good spacing between tables in these COVID times. Handy rest and refresh stop! 2025 - the cafe is now renovated and in a new position 2nd floor just near entrance to the carpark on the side Zara used to be. I had grilled chicken filet for lunch which was good but, oh dear!, there were a lot of stewed cherry tomatoes and spearing them made a terrible mess of my pink jeans and top - so be careful - eat them whole. Pleasant staff! I’d go again for a quick meal in the city.

OMG left ready to cry i was more hungry leaving then when i arrived. Had toast that arrived un buttered and almost cold, asked for butter and it took so long to arrive our toast was as hard as a rock. We were given a steak knife for spreading making it dificult to spread and as sharp as the knofe was it still could not cut the toast. Kids toast was just as hard. Staff were informed with opportunity to amend but none offered. Not impressed at all. Onr star for the man who served us as he was lovely. Bread used was not suitable for toasting better for soup
