HanCook Restaurant — Restaurant in District of Tuggeranong

✨ Long overdue but so worth writing! ✨ We decided to celebrate my sister’s birthday with some Korean food, and what a perfect choice it was. The restaurant is run by the sweetest young couple, and JJ welcomed us with the biggest smile—even though we arrived a little late 🙈.

She went out of her way to make sure my sister’s wheelchair (it’s quite a large one!) had plenty of space, which made such a difference. JJ also guided us through the menu with so much patience and charm, making the whole experience feel personal and extra special. 💕

Now, let’s talk food, absolutely delish! 😍 We kicked things off with the shrimp entrée, which was super tender and burst in your mouth, highly recommend. For mains, I had the BBQ pork and wow… melt-in-your-mouth good. And because no Korean feast is complete without fried chicken, we all shared a portion of their crispy chicken. Golden and crunchy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside, t was so good I’d more than highly recommend it!

All in all, a beautiful place with even lovelier people and food that makes you want to come back again...

When people order food, they usually expect the “original taste” of the dish, but most of the time it doesn’t quite match what they expected and ends up being disappointing. Since expectations are often idealised, the food has to taste even better than expected to really hit the spot. So if something matches exactly what people expected, that means it’s made with solid basics and genuinely tasty. Unfortunately, in Canberra, it’s hard to find Korean restaurants like that.

But Hancook was different. The flavours matched exactly what I expected, and there were no weird fusions or versions that had been localised for Aussie tastes, which you often see in Australia. It wasn’t something special but very proper, authentic Korean food.

The hospitality was also great. Usually, in Asian restaurants, we can’t expect much table care, but here they actually do care. Probably it was because they weren’t too busy, but honestly, there are plenty of places where the hospitality is very poor even...

The food was absolutely amazing, full of flavour and cooked to perfection. The staff were truly some of the kindest and sweetest people I’ve come across – so welcoming and attentive, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. Their friendly service really added to the whole experience, and you can tell they genuinely care about their customers. Everything came out fresh and beautifully presented, and you could see the effort and love that went into each dish.
