Sandpit Cafe what has happened to you. 🥲 We’ve been visiting you for years on our annual holiday and was looking forward to being back. On a much anticipated visit for breakfast we were disappointed. Our meals took quite sometime and we did notice that two groups who arrived after us were served before us. The meal was disappointing; the scrambled flat and lifeless, the salmon soo salty, the side salad stale with yellow limp leaves. In the big breakfast, the mushrooms and spinach were tasteless and appeared pre-cooked. Hot chocolate was just ‘blah’ The biggest problem guys is that the coffee has gone off, cheap bitter beans. Beautiful location. Has changed over the years to become uber expensive. Totally inflexible if you want to make a minor change to what you order eg to remove eggs (since I don't eat them). Wanted to still charge me for the eggs that I wanted removed; refused to exchange for a different side (which was already on the dish and would have been cheaper than the costs of the 2 eggs); offered nonsensical reasons for why this couldn't be accommodated. Stumbled across this gem at the beach this morning - what a great find. good coffee and the best hot chips we’ve had in Evans Head all weekend, the food that the people around us ordered all looked delicious and fresh. The cafe was clean, well run and friendly and happy, helpful staff. Great we know this is here for our future visits to Evans - wish I’d discovered it sooner. Well/fairly priced I thought too....
