I must admit I was looking forward to eating here as the reviews seemed quite good and I personally quite enjoy Mexican food. I will focus on the positives firstly. The location is convenient being in the main shopping area and just across the road from the water for added ambience. The decor is fun and eclectic and quite creative. The service was efficient and friendly. The Margaritas at happy hour were well prepared and presented I was only left wishing that they were served with Salt around the lip of the glass instead of Sugar as the Mixture is already quite sweet and the salt would make a good cocktail great. Unfortunately the food is actually where the wheels really fell off on this Mexican experience and that at the end of the day is what really counts. I have tried many different Tacos over the years and can honestly say that these were the worst I have eaten or looked at. Having ordered two I wish I had only ordered one because I only got through one. The tacos arrived looking like they had been fried in oil or perhaps just in a pan I must admit I have never eaten oily Tacos before nor have I any desire to again. Imagine 2 Slightly burnt Tacos filled with a beef mix which was bland and unseasoned with no detectable spice or heat and some chopped tomato mix. Very basic ingredients to use on a taco and it really needed some other toppings to at least fill it up and give it some flavour and to distract me from the oil oozing out of the Taco. I also tried the burrito which I was happy to say wasn’t dripping in oil but again totally missing in action was any flavour, spice or heat. This was definitely Mexican food without the things I really love about Mexican food such as flavour, spice, freshness, chilli and zesty tang. Some condiments on the tables would be a good move I think such as a couple of different Mexican Chilli sauces or spice mixes at least this would allow customer to up the spice and heat bit. The Total bill for 2 adults and 3 younger kids and 4 Margaritas was $175. To be totally honest Mad Mex would set me back around $100 for the same amount of food and drinks and unfortunately I would rate the food more highly ( Not that Mad Max is that great to be honest) I think some changes in the kitchen would make a big difference and justify the cost of...
Read moreWe were passing through forester and looking for somewhere to eat. We were ushered to sit down on the side as we had no reservation which I guess was fair enough. We were then given the tiniest bar table to sit on that was on a ledge in between the doors to the back of the restaurant.
The service was just mundane standard. We were handed menus and ordered our food and drink. We were astounded as to how the nachos were $20 dollars without any meat !?!? Just beans chips and cheese and $4 extra for meat. We sucked it up and paid for the meat and then asked about the toppings and informed it was an extra 5 dollars for guacamole or sour cream like omg
While waiting for our food I overheard one of the waitresses saying “oh we don’t do taco Tuesday during the school holidays “ Like what is the point !!
When we received our drinks I held mine up to take a sip out of it at the complete bottom of the glass fell off
It took some time to get a waiters attention and they didn’t even apologise just cleaned it up and got me another coke
I was weary coming because of some of the reviews and they were correct anyway the food wasn’t horrible but it...
Read moreThe lady at the front managed to squeeze us in at the last moment even though we didnt have a reservation and on a saturday night it was very busy so we appreciated that. Look its hard not to make comparisons to the previous Mexican restaurant at this location and when I looked at the menu I knew immediately it wasnt the same restraunt we knew and loved for years before. That being said it was very clear once we recieved our meals they concentrate on quality rather quantity with their menu and having a smaller menu meant that the concentration on the dishes we received was fantastic! I ordered the spicy chicken quesadilla and it did not disappoint. The staff were super friendly and attentive. A complementary serving of chips and salsa and water were presented to us as we were seated which was a lovely surprise. The female toilets have received a pink paint job which gave me a giggle. We had a little spider start spinning a web on our water bottle and i watched a cockroach run up the pole outside but I guess critters outside can't be helped sometimes. Sangria was a really decent serve and super yummy. Different recipe and far superior....
