Skeetas Restaurant Bar & Cafe — Restaurant in Geraldton

We really wanted to love Skeeter’s - we’d read great things online and were looking forward to our Easter Sunday dinner there on our last nights stay in Geraldton. I called a week in advance to confirm that we could bring our small dog and was assured it would be no problem - and that we could sit outside on the balcony with him. I noted the staff member’s name and included it, along with the fact that I had spoken to her and that she’d confirmed having a small dog would be no issue, in our booking notes to avoid any confusion. All sorted.

Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were told we couldn’t dine with our dog after all. Staff said they had tried to call, but didn’t leave a voicemail - which would have made all the difference. A simple text, email or voicemail would’ve been really helpful, especially on a busy long weekend with limited other options.

With nowhere else to go, we were offered takeaway, served in plastic containers with wooden cutlery - to sit outside the restaurant with. A little underwhelming considering we spent nearly $200 on food alone - we couldn’t drink due to their licence.

To be fair, our server brought us proper cutlery after we asked was kind and apologetic - she was the highlight of our visit alongside some truly delicious starters which came out right away. Sadly, the mains didn’t live up to the same standard, and after a long wait (over an hour), we felt quite forgotten.

Where do I begin, I'm still full from last night's FEAST. my partner and I were simply passing through Geraldton for the night and needed to rest but also needed good healthy yummy food, which is hard to find when you're chasing crayfish - (partner insisted) We found Skeetas through the hotel, but we also made enquiries to other places. We chose Skeetas because, when we spoke to the gentleman on the phone, he not only totally engaged with us, but explained the process of seafood in Geraldton, and why we wouldn't find crayfish on their everyday menu, but were very pleased to tell us they had fresh crayfish today and cooked 3 different ways. We ordered - Crayfish citrus butter and Mornay +5 star for both Ribs +5 stars Buttered greens +5 stars Roasted pumpkin +5 stars Crispy chicken +4 stars (only because it wasn't crispy crispy, but still amazing) Martini sundaes +5 star. Pros- not only could we order this amazing food TAKEAWAY, over the phone and then collect, also rare, but when were given our food and the desert was missed they actually delivered them to our hotel as an apology. My partner and I came here for a nice birthday dinner. My experience in the past with Skeetas wasn't the best when 4yrs ago I came with family to eat and we waited approx 2 hours for our food to come out and even the quality of the food wasn't the best. Thinking that it's been a long time since then we would try again. Yet again I've been let down by waiting an hour for our entrees to arrive. The entrees were then very boring dishes, taste and presentation wise, especially comparing to the photos of other people's experiences and mainly for the money we were paying for them. The mains then took an extremely long time to come out as well as we watch other tables served after us be served their mains and even finish them, ready for dessert. The only good experience we had was the nice water view and the cocktail coming out in less than 5mins even though the drink itself was disappointing for a $25 drink. The service was also very poor and cold. Personally this experience was pushing for 1 star and was my last chance for this place, I don't think I'll come back again even though I've heard good reviews from other people.
