The Geraldton Museum is a treasure trove of historical wonders. The shipwreck section is particularly captivating, offering a fascinating glimpse into the maritime history of the region. Detailed exhibits and artifacts bring to life the dramatic tales of shipwrecks along the Western Australian coast. Equally impressive is the section dedicated to the contributions of Western Australia's First Nations peoples. This area is thoughtfully curated, showcasing local stories through local artists incredible work

Another highlight is the extensive section on local settler history, which vividly portrays the lives and experiences of early European settlers in the region. This part of the museum is rich with personal stories, photographs, and memorabilia, making history come alive. Additionally, the museum's display on local fauna is both informative and engaging, showcasing the unique wildlife of the area and detailed information.

The museum also has a fascinating deep sea section. This exhibit offers a window into the mysterious underwater world off the coast, featuring a variety of marine life, geological formations, and the technology used in deep-sea exploration. The Geraldton Museum offers a well-rounded, educational, and thoroughly enjoyable experience for...

The museum is free entry. They work on donations are strongly recommend everybody donates because this is a great activity to do in Geraldton.

There is nothing information here that you could easily spend about four hours but you can get through a little bit quicker if you skip over some of the informational plaques.

There is information on the indigenous history, the history of the settlers, the Murchison River, the shipwrecks from the Dutch East India trading company off the coast near Geraldton and the Abrolhos Islands, and plenty of other interesting generic information such as things about the wildlife the Leeuwin current and the Point Moore Lighthouse as well.

I can't speak highly enough of the museum. To me it is the perfect size - where you can easily get lost for a number of hours, but not too large that you can't get through the whole thing in one day.

The location is right on the marina so before or after your visit you can enjoy a nice walk along the marina.

Very nice and educational Nice gift shop :) Rather see aboriginal art and accomplishments sick of museums talking about how the terrible acts of the white people towards the original people of the land, the way they treated them, breakthroughs the aboriginal people have done example first to play with flight, agriculture/farming the oldest record of a musical instrument, lots of other things, bloody disgusting making out rabbit proof fence was good the actors did amazing job but the story is terrible:( Very depressing, rest of the museum was good but the history of this great Southern land is terrible talk to elders and get some positive stories for the next generations, do you want people to hate more? Why do you have to display the atrocities towards people, slave stuff too 😞 how do you explain to kids Back in the day it was normal to chain people up? You need to think of the kids and how someone would react who is related to what is on display, have a...

There are lots of enthralling stories to uncover at the town’s museum by the marina. You can get a handle on the amazing biodiversity and natural scenery of the region and the Abrolhos Islands. Space is also given to aboriginal Yamaji history and culture, while there’s a ton of early European at the Shipwrecks Gallery showing off finds dating back four centuries. The story of the Batavia, wrecked off the Abrolhos Islands in 1628, is as exciting as it is bloody, and accompanying coins, cannons and an entire Baroque stone arch help paint a vivid picture. Also devoted to underwater discoveries is From Great Depths, where an exhibit and 3D film present the wrecks of the light cruiser HMAS Sydney (II) and German auxiliary cruiser HSK Kormoran, resting at a depth of 2,500 after their battle in 1941.
