We had the most amazing meal here tonight! Service was attentive and friendly, we ordered mostly from the Tapas menu. The dishes were brought out 2 at a time, and we had plenty of time to savour each dish before the next came out, but not so long that we were waiting for the food.
We chose a varied selection including sushi, sashimi and chicken wings. Everything was incredible: the fresh and beautifully flavoured kingfish sashimi was a stand out, but everything we ordered was delicious.
Even my very picky husband loved everything, and we eat out a lot so this happens rarely. Dessert was also wonderful: I had the black sesame mochi ball ice cream, and if you love rice mochi balls you will love it! Very interesting with lovely flavours.
Presentation of everything was simple, detailed and appealing, just like the food. Beautiful little handmade Japanese pottery Tapas plates, good quality disposable chopsticks, and forks if you are not great with chop sticks.
We will definitely be back next time we visit the area, this was the best meal we have had in a really long time. We want to try more of the menu, and the extensive drinks and cocktails menu as well.
Thanks for being the perfect ending to our holiday! Cafoo Izakaya we...
Read moreI really wanted to love the food here as it’s just around the corner from us and Japanese is our favourite cuisine… but unfortunately there was very little to like about the food. I’m perplexed by the reviews, clearly no one who has left 5 stars has been to Masu Izakaya in Burleigh, and certainly not to Japan… positives: really nice atmosphere, service was fine and fast, but the only dish that was good were the gyoza. The prawn tartare? Please for the love of Japanese food take that abomination off your menu (inedible, and I can see my opinion of them is not isolated)… let’s save cocktail sauce for a backyard BBQ. The edamame beans were inedible (and I’ve eaten through a bowl of frozen edamame in Japanese yakitori bar), sashimi wasn’t melt in your mouth, bao buns average… there’s actually a surprisingly high standard of Japanese food in GC but this just falls so, so short it’s sad. We frequent Masu Izakaya (incredible and similarly priced) and it’s difficult not ordering everything on the menu, but even the menu here is lack lustre… Tokyo Kitchen just around the corner does nothing fancy and those dishes are 10x better for $10-15. Chefs, please read my review and...
Read moreTerrible service tonight. We have been multiple times to Cafoo and this time will be our last. Our booking was from 5:30pm for an hour and a half seating, only 3 other small tables in at the same time and the service was lacking. First food order was not taken until 6pm, food was brought out very slowly. At 6:40pm we were told our table was booked for another booking at 7pm, I reminded them that we had still not received some of our meals and I had waited 20 minutes to try and get some service before getting up to go and order a second drink and my main meal at the bar counter. After I raised the issue that some dishes had not come out, the waitress came back to tell me it was too late to bring out the chicken skewers I had ordered but other dishes were coming. The last of the dishes was brought out at 6:57pm and the cheque was delivered at 7:03pm. I provided feedback to the lady who brought out the cheque and eftpos machine and the response was simply, sorry for your experience and that they were short staffed. The restaurant still had 8 empty tables as we were leaving. Very disappointed in this experience as we have enjoyed this restaurant multiple...
