My partner and I decided to go for drive down to tugan for the day, and thought we would stop here for some fish and chips. On that day, they had a special for $39.00 two pieces of barramundi, calamari chips and prawns. I thought to myself, what a great deal for two piece of barramundi for that price. We took our lunch and went somewhere for a picnic, started eating the fish and it wasn’t barramundi as they claim it was flake. I’ve worked in Seafood restaurants for 10 years, and I know the difference between fish. What you claim to sell was not barramundi. It was flake. There might be people out there that will fall for that but I know the difference between a barramundi and a flake. What you provided was false advertising. If you’re advertising barramundi for that price, then you should standby what you write and serve barramundi there might be a lot of people out there that don’t know the difference between fish but I do and what you serve was not barramundi very disappointed I will not be returning. Read moreWorst fish and chips of my life. We ordered a family meal with a small seafood salad which ended up being $70 which is incredibly pricey. You think surely the food will be good— wrong. Do yourself a favour and do not go here.
When making our order we placed the cook answered the phone and when we asked what was it would cost we were told very rudely. ‘I’m a cook not a front girl’.
Chips were old and stale tasting. I wonder when they changed the oil last… The worst was the fish. I took a bite into a slimy awful tasting crumbed fish. No body ate it. It smelt disgusting. It was clearly off or had been frozen. After asking what fish it was on the phone we were told they were basa fillets from Vietnam.. frozen. I know if we ate them we would have all been sick and I’m glad I didn’t share any with my daughter.
When we called and explained the situation we were told he would refund. When getting back down there to follow through we received a measly $10.

Read moreI have been a loyal customer of Captain Hook’s for 15 years as a Currumbin local. It was my absolute favourite fish and chips ever, but I have felt really disappointed the last few times we have been. I am only writing this review in hope that the owners see, and possibly look at the consistency of the food they are serving. Today coming back from the beach we just ordered a large chips. They were inedible and the four of us left without hardly eating any. The peel was left on, they were really badly overcooked, and we asked for chicken salt and didn’t get any. In the past Captain Hook’s was my go-to for chips, I absolutely loved them! Also, I understand giving young kids a go at serving but they really should be trying. The young boys who served us made no eye contact, and to be honest were pretty rude. Not a good representation of your business and probably need a bit of mentoring and training. Good luck Captain Hook’s, I truly hope you can turn your famous...
