Sapori Gold Coast — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

We would have loved this place had the service not been a huge let down.

We (a party of 4) booked a dinner reservation about 4 days in advance. When we showed up on time to be served, there were no tables reserved for us and I saw a family of five who looked like they had just arrived be booted off their table and seated outside, so we could be seated there instead. That showed there was no prior organisation or planning to keep our reservation. A bit like that Seinfeld episode about picking up a rental car - “You see, you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them.”

The main letdown though, was that our food order of 3 pizzas and one other seafood main dish took 1 HOUR to be served, from the time we ordered with the waitress. Based on observing how other seated diners were being served and the general flow of traffic, I could see that this place places priority on take away orders of pizza, rather than balancing that with the influx of orders from seated diners. Many takeaway orders of at least 5 to 6 pizzas at a time were seen flying out the door, but the poor seated diners were made to wait, like us.

The final nail in the coffin was when my partner asked one of the waitresses when our food would be ready, we got attitude back - we were told with condescension “as you can see, we are quite busy”. No apology or effort to find out what is going on with our order! Waiting 1 hour for a meal is not tolerable by any standard.

The food itself was pleasant, although the Vegetarian pizza could definitely use a shake-up - adding actual vegetables like artichoke, eggplant or something more exciting than tomato and red onion. My poor dad who ordered it only ate two slices.

A real shame and we left with a bad taste in our mouths mainly due to the lacking...

I would have loved to give this place a 0 star even negative star review because this is so ridiculous. It is unbelievable that just a highly rated restaurant has the audacity and give such small portions to customers when the prices are sky high. We ordered 2 for $45 PASTA deal for dinner. However to our disappointment we received an order that honestly looked like someone else’s leftovers that would have ended up in the trash. It was just sauce that barely covered the surface of the takeaway container. No pasta noddle. HELLO? NO PASTA IN PASTA??? can someone explain to me how that makes sense. Sure it would be slightly better if it was under a separate sauce section HOWEVER it was in the PASTA section. Even after calling the restaurant, the man on the phone was not apologetic at all, rude and said that there were never any complaints about it. This horrible customer service mixed in with a portion that would be for little children is crazy. They do not deserve such high ratings and need to work on, quite frankly, everything. Do they not even feel bad about serving this much food? The food doesn’t even taste good, an insult to Italian cuisine. It is inedible. How are they even able to serve this. No human compassion to satisfy their customers needs. Never ordering from here again this is actually ridiculous. I have never posted a bad review ever, but this is just too...

My oh my! Incredible, like seriously so incredible. A five star review just isn't enough credit for how good this place really is.

Before I even mention the food, the service is awesome, a fine dining experience along with the homely and casual atmosphere you'd hope to find at an authentic Italian restaurant. The staff are always so kind, happy to serve and always good for a laugh too.

But the food, wow, on a whole other level. The pizza is absolutely amazing, the crust, the dough, the sauce, it's all perfect. I've had a few different pizzas now and all of them have been extremely delicious. Probably the best pizza I've ever had. However, to our surprise tonight we tried the Gnocchi Quattro Formaggio with Nduja for the first time and we were absolutely amazed by how great it was, you'd be hard pressed to find a better gnocchi dish anywhere. Matteo's is definitely not just a pizzeria at all, will definitely be coming to try all the pasta now too. The Tiramisu is also super delicious, I don't know if we will ever be able to visit without ordering one each.

We have come here many times now and even back when it was just take away pizza, it was best pizza on the Gold Coast, but now with the full dining experience and a full menu, it's definitely the best Italian restaurant on the Gold Coast for me too.
