Wild Cherry Coffee House — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

As a self confessed coffee nerd i will happily take a train 2 hours to Brisbane for good coffee. So i can confidently say that the consistently best coffee on the central Gold Coast is from Rochelle & Mel and the crew at Wild Cherry (some of the most genuine people you will meet).

It is a very good sign for all coffee drinks in an establishment when they can do black coffee to this high quality, because there is no milk or sweetener to hide behind if you don't nail it perfectly every time.

I normally have to go to a specialty roaster's "cellar door" to get consistently outstanding filter coffee or cold drip like this. The long blacks are just as good, and they have even managed to source and brew a decaf that tastes extremely similar to regular coffee (which is impressive given the chemistry challenges involved).

As well as a cabinet full of food, if you have a sweet tooth they usually have a freshly baked special of some sort: be it gourmet soft-centre cookies or nutella cruffins that are worth getting in early for.

If you are a local Blackboard or Cafe on South Bay regular and haven't been down to Wild Cherry yet, do me a favour and support these guys -- they really go the extra mile, and have amassed a loyal following for their high standards and hard work. I was just running in for a quick coffee on the way to a meeting with my 6 mo so I didn’t bother getting the pram out, the barista couldn’t stop her personal conversation about getting another job long enough just to take my order so I had to stand there for ages with my heavy baby on my hip. Right after I left without ordering she called a guy in from the back to help with orders. I understand if a coffee takes a long time to make but when I’m the only person in line and you’re the blatantly ignoring me when it would’ve been nice to order and sit down to wait with my child is awful especially when the person she was talking to about the job had her number so they clearly could have discussed it another time. I used to love supporting this local cafe as we live just down the road but I definitely won’t be going back...

9 DOLLARS FOR AN X- LARGE COFFEE.. ARE YOU CRAZY!!! This place used to be epic before it unfortunately changed hands, now all the previous lovely friendly staff have left.

4 shots was included as standard with a large coffee which worked perfect put in my XL take away mug with a little extra milk. Now they grumped and gripped about my (environmentally friendly) take away mug. It looks bigger than it is due to the internal insulation. They reduced 4 shots to 3 for the standard large coffee- PAY EXTRA for 4 shots now and a bit of extra milk.

The catch is the owner initially rang it through on the till for $8, I had to return to my car to get cash, and it went up a dollar before I got back... Needless to say I told them to forget about it!!!
